I think Russell should win the Vezina no?

I could see him as a leading candidate, but not a runaway candidate. He seems to have been built up as having a season of the ages, making him an MVP candidate. He is no Hasek.
I'm not discounting the voters/the league really wanting to make this a passing of the torch narrative from Lundqvist, and a Vezina helps to further cement this. You can almost hear the flowery prose being dusted off by the press.

NHL probably doesn't like Weekes dumping this info out ahead of its schedule. Pretty "hey look at me" self-serving too.

Wins is more a team stat. SO are largely irrelevant.

He is first in the 2 stats voters will focus on.

I wonder if Shesterkin will regress at all next year after winning the Vezina. We've seen so many young goaltenders come into the league and absolutely dominate for a single season only to never be able to repeat it. He's already been exposed a bit in the playoffs, now that teams are more familiar with him I bet his stats take a big jump next season

Unlike say the Norris or Hart where half the voters do just go online and look up who's winning the scoring race, the Vezina doesn't always go to the goalie with the best individual stats.

2019 would have been an easy Ben Bishop victory then. 0.934 save percentage (first), 1.98 GAA (second), but Vaslievskiy completely ran away with the award despite being sixth in save percentage and eighth in GAA.

Vote will still probably be:

27-4-1

Treliving, Poile, maybe another divisional rival of Nashville and Calgary who had nightmare games against Markstrom/Saros, less likely but maybe someone like BrisBois voting first for their starter like Vaesilevskiy as the second place votes.

Lowe (or whoever they pretend is the GM in Edmonton these days) voting Shesterkin third behind Smith and Koskinen.

I will be surprised if its not 32 1st place votes for Shesterkin.

And if that's what he wants, that's fine.

You can make a career in hockey out of knowing the right person in the league office or set of agents or friends/family of executives who will divulge this to you and allow you to fire out juicy rumors consistently (assuming you can monetize that knowledge).

Dreger has done it for how many years, as he knows someone in the league office (or did) that sees the faxes on trades (evidence exhibit a, the Jokinen 2.0 deal that was amended last minute to be put on hold until the next day, but Dreger reported it early), and was cousins with Dave Nonis. And, guys like Seravelli who act as microphones for agents and their clients.

Kevin Lowe and our former GM have no problem telling the press inside dirt to get them on their side, share some intimate details no one knows as a favour and makes the insider feel like an insider, and that favour is called in later when Lowe needs some dirt on a team or agent that doesn't open up to their people. It's definately a subculture with its own rules.

Rumors get clicks and more credibility gets those rumors more clicks, but dealing in rumors only gets you labelled pretty quick in NHL executive circles and you have to walk a fine line with all that or you lose your contacts (they go quiet), so discretion and playing the game is important.

Weekes I think is unaffiliated with anything network wise, after being on the NHL network and maybe NBC for a bit? So that tells you something. He's not getting paid to be the leaker of this info. So why is he doing it? To cause ####?

The team beat writers on every team know a lot more about things on the team than they could very share in a column or interview...under the natural threat of them no longer being a NHL team beat writer anymore, anywhere, if they did spill the beans.

And, guys like Dreger or that type do not have NHL GM aspirations (which could itself be a rumor Weekes has asked to have "reverse" floated out there by the people he gets his info from) like Weekes supposedly has.

Nope, today was the day it was to be announced, based on the league schedule:
