I would think its cap space for a potential trade (depth defenseman is my guess), makes no sense to recall the player if he won't play.

Plus a roster spot (of the 23).

Yeah, the Flames have enough depth at center now as Dube can slide over if need be for a last minute injury with Ritchie coming in on the wing. No point in keeping an extra body like Rosy or Richardson in the press box. This is to make room for a depth LD for sure.

Might make a lot of sense for the Oilers to trade for Mrazek with Toronto retaining 1M. So the Oilers would get Mrazek for remainder of this season and 2 more at 2.8M.

By no means is it a solution for their goaltending issue, but they are in such a poor position cap-wise that they cannot afford to pay a goaltender more than a couple million this summer.

Oilers may as well take Sateri over Mrazek.

Any team without question marks in goal should put a claim in on Sateri, playoff bound or not.

His contract expires at the end of the season and is at league minimum. Perfect try out scenario.

It would be funny if both of the Leafs goalies on waivers got claimed and they had to scramble to get another goalie two hours before the deadline

Seem to recall that happening to them a while ago. Mcbackup and someone else got claimed and they had to flail around to land Hutchinson as a back up

How do the mechanics of this work?

The Leafs find out both goalies have been claimed at 12:00 Eastern. The trade deadline is 3 PM Eastern, so they would have 3 hours to obtain a goalie for that goalie to be eligible for the playoffs and the rest of the regular season. If they don’t find a goalie, they would have to use one from their farm system for the playoffs. If they obtained a goalie after the trade deadline, he could play in the regular season, but not in the post season.

Am I close?

I think waivers are at 2PM EST this year and the trade deadline is 3PM EST.

So Richardson doesn’t clear until 1 hour prior to the deadline.

The waiver time was moved to 2pm ET this season, so they'd only have 1 hour to scramble to make a deal. I wonder if the league would give teams a heads-up that a claim has been put in on a player?

Yes there is zero need to do this in order to recall Ruzicka. Seems very likely another depth trade is happening tomorrow.
