There's only one 'i' in Brathwaite.

Sorry, just bugging me.

I 100% knew that. For some reason my phone autocorrected it? Just did it again when I tried to fix it. Bizarre.

He gets it for renegotiating his contract after kipper popped and took his spot. Legendary move.

I wonder how the list would deviate from the top 10 games played list for goalies? Not sure it would deviate much.

Not a single person with Vernon at #1 surprises me. He's the only starter with his name on the Cup.

How do you even make a top 10?

Kipper
Vernon
Reggie

That's kind of where it ends.

Debate all you want, I think we can all agree that not ever calling up the StayPuff Marshmallow Man (aka Andrei Medvedev) was the biggest goaltending blunder in Flames history.

There is a lot of competition for that award.

I think ltrading Jean-Sebastien Giguere to Anaheim for a pick would be a bigger blunder.

How about we let him play the games first? If Markstrom steps away from hockey tomorrow, his record with the Flames is rather light. He does have the shutouts though.

Trading up in the draft with New Jersey so they could pick Kidd while passing on Brodeur who ended up getting selected by New Jersey will always be the biggest goalie blunder of this franchise. Especially because Kidd and Brodeur were the 1, 2 picks for goalies that year.

It is near impossible to do a top 10 goaltenders of any organization, you start getting into the reeds pretty darn quick, even with Montreal who has seemingly always had a great goaltender I have no idea who their top 10 goaltenders would be. This is made harder by the fact that goaltenders like Glenn Hall used to play every game (or close to it) in a season so the role of the starting goalie was bigger than it is now.

1. Roy
2. Plante
3. Dryden
4. Price
5. Durnan
6. Vezina
7. Theodore
8. Vezina
9.???
10.???

The Habs are pretty much the only team you could make a somewhat worthwhile top ten list of goalies for. Take pretty much the list you've already got going, add Gump Worsley and George Hainsworth, and one of Gerry McNeil, Charlie Hodge or Rogie Vachon as the tenth guy. Other than Price and Théodore they all won multiple Stanley Cups.

Meanwhile looking at some of the lists of top ten Flames goalies in this thread we've got scrubs like Trevor Kidd around #7? He wasn't even the (clear-cut) best goalie on the frickin' team at the time!

To me it's still three guys and then not a lot matters.

Lemelin gets overlooked but he was a beast for much of the early 80s until the Oilers exposed his stand up style.

Everyone after that was filler (the list, not the goalies to come after)

Markstrom has a chance with his contract and skill set to enter the top group, but unless he wins a cup he won't catch Vernon, and I don't think anyone ever catches Kiprusoff.

Markstrom and Edwards are similar in that both were big names that arrived with high expectations after some years of inconsistent goalkeeping for the club. And their first years were disappointing. But Edwards never did what Markstrom is doing now.

BTW Lemelin was named to a Canada Cup team. He was pretty good.

in back to back years with the Flames Reggie was 2nd and 3rd in Vezina voting (3rd in AS voting both years) and even got a chunk of Hart votes in one of those seasons

now our ability to evaluate goalies has evolved since then- but little doubt for a few years he was a really good goalie and a very popular Flame. agree with the consensus that he is a comfortable 3rd until or unless Markstrom bumps him down eventually

My biggest concern is what my iPhone autocorrect continues to suggest when typing Hiller.
