Two straight incredible years for Farabee -- he is on an upward trajectory to being a top line player. It's great value if he maintains his 55pt pace, and a steal if he improves, which seems likely given more PP time and a team that doesn't stink. Great, great extension.
Farabee >> Mangiapane. He's already shown more and is younger.
Regarding the Flyers future:
They are in win now mode. They have a lot of key pieces to do it. For next year, I'd imagine they can send picks with JVR to unload his contract. Giroux is not getting 8M -- some Philly beatwriters are thinking ~5M sweetheart range. JVR is slightly overpaid, Hayes is overpaid, will see what happens with Risto, but I see a lot of good contracts, so I'm not too worried down the road.

With Frost, Allison, and Aube-Kubel likely signing very reasonable deals. It's not like they have massive holes, and I'd expect Giroux to take a decent hit cap-wise as he'll be 34. They also have Foerster probably pushing into the line-up in 22/23, and Cam York stepping into the NHL.
Provorov - Ellis
Sanheim
They have their top-3 defencemen locked in, and their #1 goalie.
I don't think they are in a bad spot cap-wise.

Is the goalie any good though? Flyers season hindges on a Hart bounce back

I thought Frost was going to be the better player for Philly. I was wrong. Farabee is the real deal. He's going to be a good one. Frost has a long way to go to even be a regular contributor.

Sure you can trade JVR and picks and take no salary back but what picks? No 2nds for 2 years. Also last time I looked JVR lead the team in points? It’s not just a straight add by removing JVR.
Philly is in win mode now but Giroux is 33 now. They still aren’t a lock for the playoffs, very old team, below average prospect pool, short picks, terrible cap situation next summer. I will believe giroux takes $5 mil when I see it unless it’s an 8 year deal. Also with the money flying around Risto probably gets $6 mil or more. I don’t see how the Flames are any worse off but philly made some big moves which gets everyone excited

For me right now I see the Flyers as a team that did something. They had horrible defense last year and went out and acquired 2 right Habs shots to pair with their 2 solid left hand D.
With Calgary I see a team that in 3 years went from top team to bubble team to playoff miss. Treliving has kept the top core of this team together every summer while doing some free agent work or shuffling chairs in the bottom 6. The defense has changed a ton in the past couple years but the forwards remain pretty similar especially the top 5 over the last 3 years. Treliving promised change and has yet to really deliver on that

We will see, Flyers traded top picks and handcuffed themselves for years. If they suck still it will be much harder to get out of.

Agreed. Ellis is good but his contract expires when he’s 37.
I see philly being a better team than the Flames but worse cap, older and lessor prospect pool and draft picks. But I only see them as slightly better. Both teams have a goalie who under performed last year. I also see with Girouxs decline a team like the Flames that lacks top end talent. Giroux couturier Atkinson farebee JVR? Is that better than Johnny Tkachuk Lindholm mangiapane and monahan?
Top 4 d looks similar and hart and markstrom numbers are similar
At least the Flames aren’t as bad off next off season

Farabee's ascension was definitely a pleasant surprise, but I wouldn't sleep on Frost.
He was a dangle machine in junior, and had glimpses in the NHL. Hes just had bad injury luck.
Flyers won the Metro 2 years ago, then Everyone had a down year. Natural regression on top of an improved team has me very optimistic.

Absolutely.
At the same time, most teams rely on their #1 goalie to be good as well.

Provonov
Ellis
Ristolainen
Sanheim
Braun
Who are you suggesting matches up with Provonov?
I am pretty certain by what they gave away to get Risto (Hagg - 14th OA and a 2nd) as to what the Flames traded for Zadorov that there would be higher expectations for Risto.
Andersson and Sanheim are disappointments that got paid too much too soon.

This is too funny. Since 2010-11 he is the 4th highest scorer in the league and led the Flyers in scoring again last year. The guy is a high end talent that may have dropped slightly but nowhere is he declining.

I love Farabee, all the way back to his draft year. He has that nastiness quotient, and will even drop the gloves.
