This is a real blindfold dartboard toss. All the kids at this stage of the draft are.

So he's listed at 5'11, but how recent was that data? It'd be cool if he's had a growth spurt and is 6'2 now. Hopefully he spent the missed year bulking up and training.

Think it is obvious we are in the area scouts suggestions for the Flames now.
OHL scouts must have loved him.

With high hockey IQ, scouts would be betting he knows where it's at.

Porque no? Whynot’s Latin cousin
This is last asset I’m the lucic trade. Treliving did win this trade even if this kid can’t improve as Brock Otten suggest he needs to.
But good hands and a good iq sound like a good foundation so far.

He's an interesting player with a pretty good showing as a 16 year old and then missing a season.
Sounded pretty positive that he wasn't with his parents for the phone call today and was in Michigan at an elite hockey camp.
Someone in this draft is going to get an upper roster player from the lower areas because of the odd development year.
May as well be a guy that's part of an Edmonton Calgary trade!

The OHL not playing this year is such a wild card. I bet we see a ton of teams end up with players in the later rounds who normally would have been 2nd if not 1st round picks.

Another Flames late round pick is lighting up the OHL. This one happens to have been part of trading James Neal.
Quote:
The 18-year-old has racked up eight goals in eight appearances so far, tied for tops among all Ontario Hockey League marksmen. He leads the loop with three game-winners.
Beck has also contributed four assists and, with a dozen points, is just two off the pace in the OHL’s overall scoring race. Another Flames’ sixth-rounder, Rory Kerins, is among those at 14. (The 19-year-old Kerins, drafted in 2020 and now centring the top line for the Soo Greyhounds, was just saluted with player-of-the-week honours.)
“Yeah, I went later, but you want to show that I’m better than these other guys,” said Beck, the No. 168 overall selection this past summer. “You want to be the guy that people say, ‘Oh, wow, how did we not take him earlier?’ or ‘He really improved over time. He really used that 20 months to improve his game and to better himself to be a pro at the next level.’ ”

Flames scouting should be given as many bullets as possible. These guys are not grade A blue chip but a lot of late picks showing serious promise lately.

I recall the Flames staff mentioning that if the OHL season went forward, Beck would have been a second round pick. I am so hoping him and Whynot become something.

I really liked the Beck pick. At worst it was an off-the-board gamble with a late pick, at best he's a real prospect.
So far, it looks like he's a real prospect. Nine goals in nine games now, and 13 points for an NHLe of around 0.4 PPG. I'm jazzed!

You might be happy to hear that he's playing his off-wing this year, so he may end up being a RW after all.
