Have a look at his minutes played and his usage, he is Geoff Wards PK specialist. (1st penalty kill unit)

Gawdin will chew up minutes without making mistakes, won’t get severely outclassed when mismatched, is feisty and plays with energy and hates losing. He’s also led teams to championships and may even chip in six or seven goals along the way.
If allowed to develop at the NHL level for a couple seasons, this guy will become the second coming of Stephane Yelle.
(This is all my own opinion, of course. 100% not based on science of any type.)

I enjoyed watching Gawdin in WHL.... Heads up player, smooth skater; dependable 200 ft game; great passer; definitely put his body on the line to make a play.
Looking forward to seeing him get an opportunity!!

IIRC the AHL guys get 75 a day
NHL guys get 120 I believe.

In the 2012 CBA, the NHL per diem was set at $100 US. It adjusts up or down annually to align with the changes to the Consumer Price Index in the US. This year, it should be somewhere around $112 US.
This season, the AHL per diem is $79 US.

Nordstrom .... [MOD EDIT: Gross]
Gawdin can’t be worse than that.

add a decent C and that'll be more than adequate
(Ryan is more than fine, but he'll be out for quite a while yet)

How do you ??? a C on a 42 goal pace in Froese?

Yes, but a good argument can be made that he shouldn't be.

I agree, I'd like to see him get some top line AHL minutes for a season first

What argument can be made to not play one of the top PK guys in the NHL?
Nordstrom was never brought in for offense, in fact he was brought on for his PK abilities and price tag attached. In that regard he is pretty good value.
His ES time is terrible for sure but like every argument made for Sam Bennett the last 4 years...look at who he plays with.
The difference in the two though is at least Nordstrom is elite at one aspect of the game and could not be paid any less to do it.
Bennett is elite at nothing and costs 3 1/2 times more.

If he continues to developed he will add some much needed skill, size and nastiness to the bottom 6. I really hope he ends up as a solid 3rd line guy. Added in with some time on the 2nd PP unit hopefully

Can I see it then? The good argument?
Flames penalty killing forwards (Nordstrom ranking)
CA/60 - 1st by a mile
SA/60 - 2nd to Ryan
xGA/60 - 1st by a mile
SCA/60 - 1st by a mile
HDCA//60 - 1st by 2 miles
He is clearly the best Calgary forward penalty killer to date, and it's not even close.
And if that isn't good enough ... his xGA/60 is number one in the National Hockey League.

Frankly I’m tired of management bringing in one retread after another while the young guys get older and wither on the vine. Play the young guys already! Gawdin and Ruzicka should get 10 games each to see what happens. Pisses me off lol.

A vocal group of posters have this irrational expectation of the team in it's handling of young players that does not according with reality. The Flames have been adding one or two rookies to core roster positions every season for the past six or seven years now.

I haven’t looked but I’m going to guess there’s an overlap between some of those posters and the ones who mock Edmonton for rushing guys likes Bouchard and Bear and/or having unrealistic expectations for them.

You are not rushing a guy like Gawdin by bringing him and giving him a fourth line spot. He is 23 years old and has done very well in the AHL*. We all know it is likely he will be a bottom six player so why not give him a legitimate chance instead of other older guys that will probably not be on the team next year?

The season is only 11 games old. I am sure he—or another player or two like Philips or Ruzicka will get their opportunities.

??
He has never played NHL hockey.
He is a guy that they are grooming.....why does he have to play NOW?
Why would they not let the development continue as it has been...its actually a pretty standard trajectory for a guy of his ilk.
Bennett is a cautionary tale as to why they take their time with some young guys. He needed to learn the pro game and when he didn't well you've seen the results.
Trust management enough to know who is or isn't ready to contribute without getting their confidence destroyed AND can still help the team as currently constructed.

Sorry, I meant to say AHL not NHL.
The portion of your bolded question doesn't make sense. I gave you my reasoning for why I think he is ready. In addition to that, being "groomed" currently means playing no games. He led the team in the AHL last year and should have been given a fair chance to make the team.
Trust management enough? This is a franchise that has lost several players because they never gave them an opportunity and so eventually, those players lost confidence and either signed with another team or never made it to the NHL.
Once again, no one is expecting Gawdin to play top six minutes so I am not sure what you are grooming him for. He is 23 years old (almost 24) and has played around 120 pro games in the minor leagues. This is not like the Bennett situation at all.
