Some people are interested in a Galchenyuk signing but i think this would be the better option.

I think so as well, and I think he could be had for less.

My #1 preference for a left shot forward is Mikael Granlund. After that I think Wennberg and then Hall.

I mean if they're not trading Gaudreau there's not much to do on the left side and center. All of the work that needs to be done is on the right side and goaltending.

RHD, RHS RW, Goalie. Thats the list.

So even if the plan is to sign Hall, move Johnny afterwards, the list doesn't change.

Edit: the list is empty spots or easily upgraded. Yeah we could use a top six center as well but as of today all 4 center spots are filled.

I like Wennberg as well, but I don't see where he would fit in. Also, isn't he buddies with Lindholm? I know Markstrom is....

Out Jankowski and Ryan. In Wennberg and Gawdin. (Outside shot: Zary) could be a nice shuffle up of the bottom 6.

I think both Wennberg or Wallmark could be good options.

Both defensively responsible centers that could have some untapped offensive potential yet.

While I would agree, where do you play either guy if you sign one?

Monahan
Backlund
Bennett
Ryan

The Flames are supposedly finally going to play Bennett at C, and not saddle him with atrocious line mates. Plus you're not replacing Monahan or Backlund with either of those guys, it's a downgrade if you do. You could bring them in for depth and play them on the wing unless there is an injury, but they are left hand shots and we have enough money already committed to wingers who are all better options, and younger cheaper guys who need ice time to continue developing.

I just don't see a fit unless they could play top 6 RW, which is unlikely.

YES PLEASE!!!! Sign 26 year old Wennberg then trade 31 year old Backlund for assets. Whatever team Wennberg goes to will be laughing all the way to the bank, have always liked this player.

Backlund has a full NTC until next off season.

Does Wennberg bring enough offense to play 2nd line center? People always question Backlund's offense, and it looks like Wennberg is even less offensively gifted (keep in mind I'm only looking at points, not fancy stats, and I haven't watched him enough to know).

Exactly my point. I like him more than most FA's this year, but he's not going to displace anyone in the top-6, and I think most of us would like to see to see Bennett at 3C. Would he come here to play on the fourth line, and is he a better utility guy than Ryan for that role? Maybe he plays LW on the 3rd line, but what do we do with Looch?I would be ok with that, but that raises other questions....

Wennberg is not even close to being able to replace Backlund
