Yep, his fire burned out in Calgary, but he absolutely has the skill to be a fourth liner on many teams.
Prediction is that he will come out hot with some fire on his new team, CP will lament losing him as we'll likely be sucking and then a month or two later he'll revert back to being a lazy player, then he'll likely be out of the NHL after next season.

Jankowski is a skilled special teams player who has been at times one of the best penalty killers in the league.
I'm sad that he never found a fit with the Flames. He'll have more success on his next squad, I feel certain of that.

He was very frustrating to watch last year. Seemed to go out of his way to avoid any contact. Not what you want from a dude his size in the NHL
Hope for the best for him though. Seemed like a decent dude.

Wants a fresh start? Well he better be getting his ass across the pond because those import slots will be filling up fast. Feaster is such an idiot and this draft kick proved it. Was there any other team in the league who was going to draft this guy in any round, never mind the first round?

I think that Jankowski will work out in another organization with a fresh start. He has a tonne of really good tools, just hasn't put them together with any consistency. 2 solid years and then one poor one. Maybe he fizzles out of the NHL, but he most certainly will get a look somewhere, and I think he will see a bounce-back of sorts.
Flames are getting deeper anyway. They will miss him as a solid option on the PK, but they have ample depth (and will likely make a signing or two on top of that). Doesn't really hurt the Flames. I will be curious to see how he does wherever he lands.

I wonder if the Flames offer was a $700,00 two-way contract, that's a big risk from Mark Jankowski to walk away from a team that still wants you.

He had a solid rookie season and showed some flashes but for whatever reason his play got worse year over year. There's probably enough talent to carve out a bottom 6 career on another team where maybe he can get his confidence back.

He will definitely get picked up and will improve. I still see him as a solid 4th line centre on a middle of the league team.

okay this changes the narrative a bit. The first tweets made it sound like that Jankowski wasn't willing to work with the Flames at all but looks like both sides tried
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Treliving clarified with us both sides discussed signing a deal different than Jankowski’s qualifying number. Said there was a mutual feeling parting ways was the best option.
Treliving says “never say never” but expects Jankowski to enter the free agent market. #Flames

He needed a better motor. A Dube or Mangiapane engine.

Meh. A somewhat desirable player that I once had high Hope's for. I expect he'll have a decent career as bottom 6/ pk guy. Still some upside but like others have said. Not a guy that moves the needle for us.

You know what he has never done, scored more points in a season than Jankowski did. Both have career highs of 32. Janko had a bad year last year but everybody only remembers some stupid comment by a ####ty GM. Not his fault that the GM picked him.
I wish him the best, didn't work out here in the end but at least he played in the NHL.

“Mutual parting of ways”. The Flames agreed they weren’t going to pay him so he agreed that he would look for work elsewhere.

Never seen a less motivated guy taking up space and air.
Good riddance .
You thought because you scored some shorthanded goals you weren't expendable. Hmm.....play defence a little better when it matters , show some emotion, hit something...ya nope.
Bye.

Mangiapane has had less time to do it, and has shown better growth.

You're not wrong, but I don't think that was the issue with his game. The biggest issue is that he couldn't ever make a pass out of the cycle.

True, 18 months younger. But one big difference is Jankowski never got to play with the top player on the Flames, not an excuse but I think we need to temper our expectations of Mangiapane. Maybe he will be a 30-40 point player over his career.

Mangiapane seems to never quit. He will fall on his butt 3 times on the way to get the puck in the corner and still come out with the puck. If he keeps that up I don't see why he can't continue to be a solid middle six guy.
If he gets a little time on the PP I could see his points going up not down.
