Shrug. An iPad can be had for $329 (US) or less, so I don’t follow your “$400 more” comment, but to each their own.

Ereader's are way better to read on. And ya, far cheaper.

The funny thing is that Mothers day is often best celebrated not treating the Mother like a mother. Let her sleep in, breakfast in bed, cook fancy for her, no responsibilities, flowers, showering her with praises... etc.
If you want to try and make something other than food though, a romantic scavenger hunt is something I've heard of before.
Stupid ideas wise, I am leaning towards a hammock.

FYI, e-readers are much more comfortable to read on. The e-ink display they use is way easier on the eyes than any tablet due to the tablets having a bright glossy display where e-readers are almost book-like in their ink and display. I know e-readers are less functional if you want to do other things also tho.
Both my Mom and I use the Kobo brand, highly recommend. I've never used a kindle but I hear some people have issues based on which format the e-book is in. As kindle has their own file format which is fine if you plan on using the amazon library but might want to check into which file format the public library uses. I know with the Kobo even my Mom could figure out the Calgary public library to check out e-books and they run on the Kobo no problem. We've had them 6+ years now.

I can attest the Kobo is nice, but I haven't used it in a while. No time to read.
Do you ever use the software Calibre to manage your e-books?

no, I think I had used a trial version of Epubor when I had a large selection of books I wanted to manage. I'll have to keep Calibre in mind for next time

“Mother Days” sounds like a Danzig themed music festival.
Every year I order my mom flowers and don’t see any reason why I won’t do the same this year.

Ya, Kobo's are great for library books, I don't know about Kindle in Canada. Calibre is really good software, and with plugins you can export DRM free books, though new ones can be a hassle. Ebook drm is the bane of my existence.
