Yes, your income is public knowledge. You can look up what your boss makes.

What about housewives?

My wife would lose all control over there if she had no income, and therefore no fines. My tire bill would be insane!!

… on account of having a tiny population and huge state-owned oil reserves. Is that supposed to be a model that other countries can just choose to follow?

No country in Scandinavia is completely Socialist. Norway is rich bc of their oil if you did not know. People are tired of too much socialism in Scandinavia which is why for example the Socialdemocratic party in Sweden is expected to have its worst election of all time a month from now.

By some of the posts in this thread I can see why the NDP won the election.

I don’t mind it being based on income in this case. People should face real consequences for actions like that. 10 or 20K over isn’t a bit deal but 105 in a 60 is dangerous driving.

They also have one of the largest supplies of easily accessible oil in the world. Norway is a top exporter of oil in the world with a population of 5 million people.

They would actively have to try to mess things up....like Venezuela levels of try.

Yeah, sounds horrible. So...when are you moving?

The fact of the matter is that a Sovereign state with massive oil reserves and a Province that is part of a Confederation that has seeked to screw us at every turn despite wallowing in the benefits of our resources are very different things.

And we've been over this a million times.

Lordy. In some sick way, kinda thankful mine was only $1500. Goto an abandoned industrial area with no people or businesses to have some fun on the bike and gets me because the cop is out there for something else. So lame.

This isn't necessarily true...

The problem, as I understand it, is that the fines 10 or 20k over are also graduated by income. If a cop chose to give Barkov a ticket for going 1 km/h over the limit, he would probably still be paying thousands. Hard to spin that as reasonable by any standard.

Give it a minute. They'll find a way. Norway is paradise on Earth.

Either way, none of this has anything to do with Barkov's speeding ticket.

Ugh...drop the puck already.

Can anyone just move to Norway if they want? I somehow doubt it. It really doesn’t further the debate to suggest that somebody should “just move there if they like it so much”.

Doesn't work that way.

Here's how the Finnish system works.
3-6 km/h over the limit you usually get off with a warning.

7-15 km/h you get 140 euro ticket, or a 170 euro ticket if the speed limit was sixty or less.

15-20 km/h over the limit you get a 200 euro ticket.

All of the above is regardless of income.

You have to break the speed limit by at least 20 km/h to get a ticket that's dependent of your income, so serious speeding. There's a minimum you get if you have no income, but not sure what that is. Likely more than 200 euros.

Edit : oh and the police also shaves a few kms off the meter reading before they consider the ticket to account for measurement errors. So if you get a ticket like Barkovs, you most likely were going at least 25 km/h over the speed limit.
