Downtown Seattle has got a pretty big homeless populations. I prefer staying in Bellevue and driving to Seattle for the day. The Boeing factory tour is great, if you're into that type of thing. If you're going to check out the outlets go to the one near the Tulalip Resort Casino, the other ones are lame. We always drive down to Tacoma for some great Southern fried chicken, from a place called Southern Kitchen.

It was a couple years ago...when I was there in May, there was a very "healthy" amount of gum on the wall.

It's more of a gum tunnel now.

I’ll be driving to Seattle next weekend. I am planning on spending a night camping each way along the way. Anyone recommend a good spot along Flathead lake? Or any other nice little lakes, for that matter?

November 10, 2015 to be exact - took 130 hours to complete according to Wiki, with over 2,350 pounds of gum removed and disposed of. By the 13th, gum was reappearing on the wall.

Was just there.
- The gum wall/tunnel is there and its gross.
- Pike Place Chowder is good. The line is big but moves fast.
- Pike Place Market is a gong show of people with their phones out waiting to video a fish being thrown.... its funny because nothing was being purchased (and tossed) while we were around there.
- Pop Museum is cool.

In terms of where to stay, there can be quite a lot of variability in cost, so check out all of the major hotels and see where the deals are. Particularly in the summer, the hotels can be very expensive as they can reach capacity, particularly if there is a conference in town.
In order of preference the ones I stay at are:
The Andra
Hotel 1000
The Thompson
Motif
Motif is probably the best in terms of price of that group and is still really central.
If it is your first time, you'll likely be surprised by how messed up some people are. You'll have a lot of people walking around on something but you'll have some people who are in REALLY crazy states.
In addition to a lot of the already great suggestions
- The Aquarium is really good if you are into marine life
- Get a burger at Dick's Drive-in.
- As someone just said, any place owned by Douglass is great. I would recommend going to Dahlila Bakery (right by serious pie) and having one of his breakfast sammies.

Pike Place is cool. The rest is kinda meh, in my opinion -- and yeah, Hrdina's right about there being a LOT of weirded-out people on the street. Smells like Prince George.

Yes, there were some interesting people wandering around, but I walked around downtown Seattle at night on my own and with another female friend and felt safe.

Stayed at the W. Echo what a few people said about the homeless problem there. Was like being an extra in the Walking Dead.

There are way more homeless people in New York, LA, Las Vegas and San Francisco.
Seemed like significantly less then all those other larger American cities.
