I was in there a month ago, and it was bare already. They didn't ever bring in any plants this year!

They had signs that you could buy the shelving! I was wondering why they were staying open all summer... Guess they weren't. Not sure why anyone would care they are closing early, as they basically never opened this year!

Oh yeah, didn't even think about the Sunnyside-Flood stuff when I bumped this. Blame the OP for the bad naming of the thread.

No plants? They had gazoodles of plants when I was there 2-3 weeks ago. I think they cancelled any open orders when they decided to sell, but as most plant orders are contracted the year prior, they were already being grown and still came.

Was nice having reasonable prices for once with the 50% off. Made them competitive.

So... where do people in the area go now that this is closed? Suggestions?

It will take some figuring out. We've never been a fan of Golden Acres so might venture out to Cochrane to see what is there- that's probably closer and more convenient for us in the NW anyhow.

My university aged son was working there this year, briefly, before being let go. It would have been nice to give all these kids they hired at the beginning of the season the heads up that this was 'very temporary' work, so they could have planned their short enough summer work season accordingly.

I still don't know why they originally said they'd stay open till end of season, and then suddenly close at end of May...unless they meant end of early spring season?

does that nearby Rona have a garden centre? if not they should create a beefy one and pick up some of the gardener traffic that is currently orphaned.

Spruce it up, down on 210th ave and macleod trail is the nicest of the 4 remaining garden centers in Calgary.

With Green Gate also being on Macleod, it makes it easy to hit both stores in one trip as the second one is only about another 10 minutes from the first.

I was shocked too. I needed a bunch of trees and shrubs for my garden so I looked up garden centers and went on an adventure. Basically there's nothing after that, so it's that then green space until okotoks.

The worst one is by cross iron mills. Virtually no plants compared to the other three.

Nothing about going that far south sounds easy to me.

Agreed. Big thumbs down to the owners for this.

Ya - it would be better for them to tell their prospective employees ahead of time about a pending deal that may or may not go through so that none of them accept the job under the premise of being a "nice guy employer" about a deal still in the works. That way, if it fell through they would have no staff and would go under anyways!

There is a reason you don't take action on unfinalized deals.....
