Flame need some guys with enough skill to deserve a lot of ice time that have some grit.
It doesn't work by having designated GRIT players playing in your bottom 6 getting 10 or less minutes a game, That is just the new version of the goon.
Having your top 2 forwards as Lady Byng guys crowds out the on Ice grit.
Last night after the Copp slapped in the puck at the whistle it was one of the first times of the years that the Flames have over reacted to protecting their goalie.
Smith going public with his observation was a pretty direct challenge to Gio's team.

Skill and character come with the addition of grit. If we could add someone like boums to Johnnys opposite wing he could have the space to create. Guys would be afraid to take whacks at him. I dont think Ferland is doing as good of a job of that, not that I have any issue with Ferland.

Please stop. We don't need to saddle Gaudreau with a plug like Bouma.
Gaudreau needs to be put with players that have skill and can finish. Bouma will just get in the way out there.

Where would you stick Bouma then? IMO he hasn't been used properly

On another team. There is no place for him on the Flames.

Hahaha Bouma is the missing piece guys. Why didn't Chicago think of that? They could have made the playoffs this year. JQ didn't know how to use him properly.

The Flames are paying Bouma $766k per year this season and next to NOT play for the Calgary Flames. You really think management has any appetite to bring him back?
Also what has Bouma done this season to earn a 50% raise over the $1 million he was getting from the Blackhawks? Keep in mind he has been playing in the AHL since the end of February.

Engelland was under appreciated my many including me. Too bad we could not have kept him and the Hamonic picks.

Dube+Brouwer for literally anything would be a good trade for the Flames
It would be stupid and horrible value but the opportunity to remove Brouwer from the team has to be taken if it is possible

Someone that can pick the team up and put them on his back when the game isn’t going our way. We were the comeback kids that year and this year once we got down we basically collapsed. Bouma was a guy that gave his all every single night and was a strong prescence in the locker room.
Guy saw the rink well and played a hard 2 way game, I would bet he could be in Ferlands spot if we were to acquire him over the summer. Here are his stats for the lazy:

IMO he is what this team is missing. He played well in Gultzans system and would continue to do well with increased ice time. He was a character guy around the room and in the lock room. If you haven’t seen it, check out the video with him and Monny (link below), notice how much he has Mony laughing? That’s missing from Monny on ice and off ice life.

We should be looking to bring him back if the price is right, I think Brouwer and maybe Dube gets it done with the Hawks in the off-season.
Come on Tre, get the band back together!

Isn't there some kind of rule to be able to start threads? Like a simple skill testing question, "what's 2+2=" or maybe "have you ever watched a hockey game at any level and do you get the most simple of concepts"? There should be if there isn't, this thread is proof as to why.
