Risky for Oiler's to pick him up as they are already at 49 signed players so only have one go.

Yep, so they then have room to trade Karlsson to Calgary for Brouwer, Stajan, Wotherspoon and a 2035 1st rounder

Wonder where I got that impression, I could have sworn claiming a player changed your position. So essentially the Coyotes will always have first claim until next season, assuming they continue to be dog####

The Oilers should pick him up, they're a pretty slow team so Cody would bring up the speed average slightly.

Because he's really slow too.

It used to work that way, but hasn't for a number of years (I believe it was changed in the 2005 CBA).

To summarize what is said there, in the event that multiple clubs place a claim, the Waiver priority is as follows:

Lowest winning percentage of pointsat the time of the claim during the regular season.
If claim is placed before November 1st, the previous season's regular season standings are used.
In the event that the clubs have the same winning percentage of points at the time of claim, the team with the lowest winning percentage would receive the player (excluding games won in shootout).
If still tied, then fewest number of points against each other.
If still tied, then the tim with the lowest differential between goals for and goals against will receive the player.

Would be shocked if not a single team took him. I think he's still a decent 6th/7th man for some team.

If I were a betting man I would bet the Oilers pick him up because they just traded a top 100 pick (95-100ish) for a backup and actually think they have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs.

He'd help the Flames PP. Doubt he falls to the Flames.

Kent Wilson‏ @Kent_Wilson
Franson has the best Rel CF% on the Hawks.

Kent Wilson‏ @Kent_Wilson
Franson's PDO is 98.5 though. Fourth lowest on the team. Bizarrely, he has the worst relative scoring chance ration on the Hawks as well.

Kent Wilson‏ @Kent_Wilson
Looks like Hawks management prefer Jordon Osterle and his 103 PDO. His on-ice SH% is over 10%. Franson’s is under 5%.

The #Leafs are currently at the 50 contract limit; therefore, to make a claim on Franson they would need to trade away a contract

Seems like just a month ago they were giving him a twirl on the top pairing with Duncan Keith, then he got injured, and Jordan Osterle took his spot. Better check in on their on-ice shooting percentages.

Franson 4.7% (23 gp)
Oesterle 11.3% (16 gp)

Ah, there you have it. Tiny sample shooting % wins another battle.

The Flames could have had Franson at $2.5 million cheaper and for two fewer years than Michael Stone. Along with Rasumus Andersson's play last season, and Backlund/Bennett/Tkachuk all needing new contracts over the next two years, another reason the numbers associated with the Stone signing seemed strange to me.

The Leafs have been basically begging for a decent right-shooting defenceman so that's hilarious to see them held hostage by being at the maximum number of contracts as they would surely be all over Franson for free if they could.

So would Franson be the 6th Giordano?

I will take Stone thank you. His contract is actually bang on for value.

The opinions of 31 GM's have way more weight than Advanced Stats. Franson obviously has some warts to his game that make him unattractive.

Yeah, I have no problem with Stone, his contract or his play.

Fair value.

Stone should play PP, he has a cannon. His value would go way up

I don’t think Stone has the hands/hockey IQ to be effective on the powerplay. Big hard slap shots aren’t very effective in the NHL anymore.
