Pretty status quo for Gully. If facing the choice between a veteran and a youngster, he seems to gravitate towards having the veteran presence on the ice...even when that veteran presence is rubbish.

Bart can be off and on.Sometimes he can be an ok #6, would rather have seen Andersson though.

#Flames D pairings tonight:
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Stone
Kulak-Bartkowski
this is so ####ing gross. makes me not want to watch the game. bartkowski is pretty much among the worst in the league at every single aspect of playing hockey except maybe skating in a straight line. in no game with calgary since he's been here has he done anything to warrant being in the lineup over any of kulak, wotherspoon, or now andersson.
i'm so looking forward to seeing all offensive momentum being torpedoed whenever bartkowksi steps on the ice. i can't wait to see how bartkowski messes up routine control in his own zone and give it away and run around his own zone for 2 minutes after he's due to come out because he can't clear it with control and every forward line he's paired with get exhausted. i can't wait to see how he fails to keep the play alive in the offensive zone if the other skaters somehow overcome the odds and get it there
not only that, but gg goes against his own arbitrary lhd-rhd pairings. there is a chance now for a guy who should never have gotten cut to begin the season, and who is already better than bartkowski and will only improve, and yet again gg insists on not icing the best lineup. infuriating and sickening

Bartkowski in over Andersson? Yuck.
Also, it would be nice to get Jagr back sometime soon, especially on the PP. Seems like such a long time to be out for what appeared to be a minor injury at the time. Hopefully he's mostly good to go and they're just giving him a few extra days for conditioning purposes.

lol thanks. just frustrated. it just seems so obvious that he's an ahler at best. in the summer i didn't think (perhaps naively) that he'd still be in the line-up at this point of this season. people who watch the ahl see a future number 1 in andersson, and he's in the right statistical range. and yet... we get to watch bartkowski skate his way to another 30% possession night

I'm disappointed as well, but Glass and Bartkowski have been scratched all week for Jankowski and Kulak, 19 year old Matthew Tkachuk plays on the second line, and the first line is quite young.

This is not something praise worthy. The fact that the opposite ever happened is cringe-worthy.

it's no coincidence that they've played their best statistical and eye test hockey when jankowski and kulak have been in over glass and bartkowski.

I'd much rather have Bart play who's been with the team over Rasmus who just got off the jet yesterday.

LOL I'm not a Bart fan either, but you should be thanking the lucky stars that we have Stone as the #4 and not a 6/7 guy like years past. Even now the top 4 looks pretty good still.

I know that Bartkowski is the weak link here, but we all know that GG would give more time to Bart if Gio does in fact not play.

Kulak might be enough to hold Bart's head above water. He was, after all, the only defencemen to ever play significant minutes 5v5 with Deryk Engelland and stay in the positive. Albeit barely, but still. This includes Brodie. I believe that the 3rd pairing staying in the positive in terms of possession recently can be strongly attributed to Brett.
I'm very disappointed we will be waiting to see Andersson, but there's a lot of factors in play holding him out of tonight's game. Travel notice, he played Thursday same time as us, they want him to watch from above, the Smith puckhandling factor, etc. Plus you want him to be confident once he takes to the ice. You need a certain amount of swagger to be a defenceman in the NHL.

Should have called up Kylington and Andersson both if they expected Gio wasn't going to play.
Brodie-Hamilton
Kylington-Stone
Kulak-Andersson

Which is exactly how you develop youngsters: set them up for success. Name me a successful organization (this excludes Edmonton) that throws their kids to the wolves?
