I second the jerky seasoning from Princess Auto that bc-chris mentioned. I've also bought this sausage kit that is going to be a winter project.

This is a very stale thread. New kid really likes jerky and my wife bought bags of Oberto and complained how expensive it is. I was like Darth saying Nooooooooooooo. Thats the world’s worst. If it never expires……

Is there decent local stuff? I see varieties at rural gas stations. The Korean stuff at Costco is pretty good but I think it was recalled. I don’t care for Longview for some reason. Any recommendations?

And I’m not making my own.

PM bc-chris and see if he'll ship some to you.

My buddy is in Cowley, and I think I'll pop by to their butcher.

Valbella's is incredible, I imagine because its made with hate.

I had arrowwood colony give me a bag of their teriyaki jerky and wow was it good. Usually don’t care for teriyaki flavour but this was pretty amazing. Looks like they supply the Better Butcher with meat so maybe they carry it there, otherwise I think you would have to drive out to the colony.

the smoker is put away for the season. i don't like smoking stuff once it's cold. you go thru a ton of charcoal and it just sucks going inside/outside when it's cold out.... but spring is only a 4 months away!

and i'm sure there is some great "giving fotze's mom some jerky" jokes, but we don't need to go there! ha!

Making your own seems more cost effective but I'm way too lazy for that. The Costco Kirkland Signature Extra Thick Steak Strips are usually what I get to have some on the go protein. Not great jerky but also not expensive and better than a lot of options, and they aren't super high in sugar like some.

It’s pretty easy with a food dehydrator. Basspro / Cabelas has all of stuff you’d ever need, but all of the cuts of lean beef that used to be cheap are now expensive and t’s kind of makes you question if it’s the best use of it.

Butchery Block in Cochrane has good “South African” jerky. Not cheap but a good chew.

I’m in the same boat that once you have homemade it’s impossible to go back to commercial; but would Longview beef jerky work in the short term?

There’s a South African place on Kensington road. I figured I’d love it so I bought too much. Actually didn’t like it at all. Something odd about it. Harrison Brunicke’s dad would make biltong and his was awesome.

I live not far from Arrowwood Colony, they have a whole store, can be found on Google Maps, and have posted store hours.

Also, they moved. They are near Mossleigh, don’t drive to Arrowwood and then google the location. Arrowwood Colony/AW Meats is what you are looking for.

Hit up Nine in a Line Brewing, in Vulcan, while you’re down this way.

Meatco in Wainwright has amazing jerky.

Boumas (family of former flames Lance Bouma) meats in Provost has the best steak sticks I've ever had.

Longview Bison jerky is still the best I've ever had anywhere.

On Vancouver Island there is a Cowichan Valley company called I believe Island Jerky and their stuff is incredible too. If you're on the island you can only get it at Fairway market.
