Yea, its interesting, they are gong to have to replace Spezza, and Seguin will have a big raise in a couple of years. They are definitely getting older though, I can see the urgency in terms of going for it now.

Dallas still has no defense.

Last year they thought "meh, we can lose three top 4 guys in Demers, Oduya and Goligoski and still be good, lol" but spoiler: they were wrong

Yeah they still look thin on the back end but they do have Hitchcock as the coach and he can play a shut em down style.

I don't think there is a team with a better offseason. Better coach, potential elite goalie, upgrade from Eakin to Hanzal at less than a $1M per, add Methot dirt cheap, and sign a big body top line RW to pair with their superstar duo.

The central is going to be a tough division next year

They're still quite bad at defense. Again a case of a team spending money where it doesn't need it.

Quickly spit-ballin' the lineup:

Benn-Spezza-Seguin
Shore??-Hanzal-Radulov
Roussel-Faksa-Ritchie
McKenzie-Janmark-Pitlick

Methot-Klingberg
Lindell-Hamhuis
Nemeth-Johns

Bishop-Lehtonen

The defense isn't as bad as it seems now that they have a stabilizing defender for Klingberg who is a turnover machine. Hamhuis isn't that great anymore, but Lindell should be a good player going forward.

It all comes down to how well Bishop plays. He could really turn this team around overnight.

Good for Dallas. That's not a bad deal for Radulov.

It doesn't get any easier for the Flames this year. A lot of good teams

I only watched a handful of Stars games last year but I think Seguin usually plays center regardless and Spezza only gets put up on their wing when they need to shake things up.

Benn-Seguin-Ritchie
Janmark-Spezza-Radulov
Roussel-Hanzal-Shore
McKenzie-Faksa-Gurianov

Also, is Julius Honka close to making it? Could help them in d depth.

I don't think I'd commit 5 years to Radulov.

The west is hefty! holy noodles. Oilers are hooped. First they have the BoA and now perennial thorn in their backsides Dallas have RE tooled . Poor Edmonton.

Apparently Marc Bergevin and you are on the same page... Which, ordinarily, I'd say is something you should be concerned about.

Yikes.

Аrpon Basu @ArponBasu
Alex Radulov says Habs offered same deal as Stars only after he agreed with Stars. At that point it was too late because he already agreed.

Yeah you're probably right, it just doesn't make sense to keep Faksa on the 4th line, so I was trying to bump him to at least the 3rd line. I was moving guys all around to make it work. Your lineup makes more sense overall.

Oh Bergevin....

It wasnt a crazy deal, he made it sound like Radulov wanted tons, but really the only issue with this deal is term, its likely a couple of years too long but Radulov will likely bug-out back to Russia after 3 anyways.

As I mentioned in the Hemsky thread, this is only a $500K raise for Radulov, I think Bergevin could have dug through the couch cushions and found that somewhere.

So given that the price and term were lower than what was being reported, anyone feel like the Flames should have been in on this given their need for a RW? I'm kind of torn.

I get that it makes sense for the Canadiens because they aren't very deep offensively, and they needed somebody like Radulov.

That doesn't meant I'd want to give Radulov a long-term contract though.

Radulov was on a one-year, show me contract last year. Let's see how he does now that he has 5 years of security in his back pocket.

He is supremely talented, but I do not think he is a player you win with.

Radulov just reminds me too much of Alex Semin and that nightmare deal Carolina signed. I don't think I could go 5 years with a guy like Radulov.

Also, offering that to Radulov would make signing Backlund much more challenging. And I would much rather have Backlund long term than Radulov.

I don't think he fits under the cap after the RFAs are signed. Furthermore, you can't project his performance forward, he was kind of a top dog in Montreal and had a very good year. He may have already peaked as a player.
