Funny thing is that teams were lining up to offer Stone a contract and Del Zotto had to settle for a two year deal with the Canucks. I'm surprised we even have GM's when you can simply look off a fancy advanced stats sheet that will tell you the value of players. I don't go out of my way to pick on anyone here but you aren't exactly enduring yourself to the rest of the community beating your dead horse.

"Enduring"?

I didn't mention any advanced stats. Del Zotto's a good complementary defenseman who had solid numbers in a #4 role last year, can easily play #5 minutes on a team with strong defensive depth, can also be a major contributor on the power play, is only 27 years old, and he was just signed for less money and less term. This would have been a better deal. And if you'll note, I wasn't the only person to say so.

As for endearing myself to the community, if being wrong about player evaluation and just fellating every move Treliving makes is what's called for in that regard, well, no thanks. He's made some exceptionally good moves, and some bad ones.

Sorry but the more you post the more I think you simply don't watch much hockey and just sit in front of your advanced stats screens.

Yes, I'm just surrounded by "advanced stats screens". Here's a selfie.

The Canucks are putting a bunch of pieces together but I'm not sure they're building anything resembling a team identity. I guess they need to fill roster spots so 1 or 2 year deals are okay. Don't like the 3 years for Gagner though.

Stone is a much better #5 for sheltering a rookie than Del Zotto is. It isn't close - you can't trust Del Zotto out there with a rookie. That would be a 10-12 minute a night pairing.

Like EE said, the GM community was going after Stone before Del Zotto for a reason.

Half a mill less and 1 less year on a basement team. Just shows how much interest there was in him that he had to settle for the Canucks on a 2 year term.

Flames are familiar with Stone and he's familiar with the Flames and the new starting G. He will mistakes but he's a helluva insurance policy if you watched him play last year but if you're going just going by Excel he might not be your type.

So Del Zotto is secretly awesome because of his advanced stats but couldn't manage more than being a 6/7 on a bad Philly team. Was that because the coach just isn't very smart? Now MDZ has to settle on Vancouver presumably because the rest of the league didn't get the memo that this guy is actually good.

In what way does Del Zotto, who is terrible defensively make Stone's contract look worse?

Stone is a much better defender than Del Zotto. Del Zotto has been in the league close to 10 years and has been a minus player almost every single year and in the coaches dog house for a few Coaches on different teams.

There is a reason he can't stick to a team. He shows potential then he craps the bed every single time. This is likely his last NHL contract.

Since only one is on an expiring contract, none of the rest are likely to be traded at the deadline this year.

Sedans only get traded if they want to, which is very doubtful.

The Canucks aren't contending any time soon, his contract won't ever matter to them.

Canucks going all-in on the tank with a bunch of quantity over quality signings, and will still probably end up drafting outside the top 3.
