If it has to be, let it be only for a year at low cost... geez. I think Tre is amazing but hope he doesn't get hooked on the high he gets when making trades

They have a whole league designed for them to show their stuff prior to the NHL.

Not against it. The price would be right. I really, really want Treliving to take it easy on July 1st and Sharp seems like a guy you could get a good deal on vs overpaying for someone like Williams or Marleau

Based on Jankowski's play last year, I would be way more confident in playing Janko in the top 9 over a 35 year old who scored 8 goals last year

Well, we won't know what some of these kids can do without giving them a chance.

Cause if there's one thing we know, it's the Flames don't give young players a chance to step into the top nine / six if they show they deserve it.

Treliving, good week. Don't undermine it with a bad UFA signing.
Pens also have Crosby and Malkin...we need to find another path obviously

I don't want to see a big expensive free agent signing, and I don't think the team needs it.

But if we could get Sharp at a decent price and a short term, I would be all for that. His experience in the playoffs would be extremely valuable.

Every time Treliving talks about the kids he always talks about creating competition and having them earn their spots. For good or bad, he's not just going to leave some spots open for the kids, he wants them to steal the spot from a vet.

Honestly, I think that makes sense anyway. They have development camp, rookie camp and training camp with which to impress the team and force Tre & GG to keep them up.

I'm all for signing Patrick Sharp (assuming it's a 1-2 year deal) and forcing a kid to outplay him for a spot.

I'd much prefer Marleau. Sharp tended to have long stretches where he did nothing. I prefer Marleau's speed personally.

Way I see it is that the Flames have 8 top 9 forward spots basically filled. As well as 2 4th line spots. So there is ice to spare, but the competition is pretty steep with Lazar, Jankouski, Hathaway, Hamilton, Foo all sparring for those 2 spots. Sharp would be nice, but acquiring him could cost us one of the high potential players on that list.

The Flames look like they're gearing up for a run. This isn't the year to try out kids to see if it works out... they're going for it.

Whether it works or not, we'll see. But I like how this team is being assembled. I also like the moneypuck strategy that the GM seems to be using.

The inherent problem with signing an older vet is the rookie has to be substantially better to take the vets job. If each player are very close in terms of performance the vet will always get the benefit of the doubt, for better or worse. Grossman should not have made the opening day roster over Jokipakka last year. Setoguchi should not have gotten as many games as he did a few years ago. If we sign Sharp and Jankowski out performs him in training camp by just a slight margin, the smart money would be on Sharp still in the NHL and Jankowski in the AHL.
