They must have had to take him with Lack in order to get Carloina to retain 50% of Eddie. Still cheaper to do this than pay full price for Lack

Strange that they wouldn't even give him a look given is contract. I assume they didn't feel he was an upgrade on what they already had in the system.

Didn't think Murphy had any potential left but buying him seemed kind of redundant as the very worst he could be a RH, slightly worse skating Bartkowski as a #7 or 8 guy. Guess there's just no room for him in the organization at all.

I think if Muprhy was on a 2-way, likely he won't get bought out. But getting full NHL salary for someone to play in the AHL and combined with the cheap 1/3 buyout made it a no brainer.

I figured they saw some value in Murphy to include him in the deal. Seems very strange from outside, I'm guessing after a Treliving explains it will make sense.
