From Flames practice:
Peter Loubardias @fan960lou
Look for John Gillies to play one of the last two games. Curtis Lazar will draw in
Roger Millions @RogMillions
Jon Gillies is in LA. Elliott has the choice of games he wants to play. Likely Gillies Thurs. Elliott Saturday. Look for Lazar in vs Kings
John Shannon @JSportsnet
Glen Gulutzan says Lazar will play vs LA. Still determining if more changes for Flames vs Kings.

I have such high hopes for Lazar.
I really hope he can get his career going.

Curtis Lazar "patience is kind of my word last couple of months." There's no better feeling than playing games "he may play centre as well.
If Lazar is playing center i suspect Backlund may be getting the night off. Backlund has recently been taking maintenance days instead of practicing.
Also would be kind of unfair to scratch Tkachuk. He is 1 assist away from a $212.5k performance bonus. While team performance takes priority, seems like a scummy thing to deny him the opportunity to earn that.

Agree completely - he has certainly earned it.

That explains a lot. Backlund hasn't looked like his 16-17 self recently. Get healed up - we need you to dominate in the playoffs!

Are the Flames allowed to rest him but still give him the bonus? Or maybe "find" an assist somewhere previously? Donate one of Jokipaaka's?

Play Gillies vs San Jose then if it's just one of the two. Prefer Elliott to get more consecutive rest days.

And if that's the case with Backlund, give him both games off.
Maybe use this time to try some different line combinations. Bennett has looked good. Maybe slot him with Chucky, or Gaudreau?

I disagree. I don't want him to get too long of a rest. He needs to ride his mojo/momentum. Don't they get like 4 days off before the first playoff game anyways?

Looks like the heat have a back to back Saturday and Sunday. I can't see them pulling more bodies from stockton with AHL playoffs on the line. I think a playoff run is more important then a cup of coffee in the nhl for the teams 82nd game if we are talking development.

Would he have to get that assist in the regular season? Or could he get that assist in a playoff game to reach that performance bonus?

I prefer Elliott get the rest and game combinations he wants to get. Hopefully GG left the choice to him.

I see both sides. Do not need LA taking shots at a guy we need for the playoffs.
Let him get that assist in the last game vs SJ

Nice change to be able to have a developing goaltender start in a meaningful game with some pressure, but the outcome of the game isn't all on his shoulders.

edit: nevermind it does explicity say "All bonuses relating to statistical achievement shall be based on the Player's performance in Regular Season Games only. "

Then they should just pay out his bonus anyways and sit him against LA. The risk is too great to run him out there against a team that has it out for him. Need him as close to 100% as possible for the playoffs and that should be worth that bonus money to the Flames.
