To be honest, I don't really see how this is news to us fans.
If Treliving was not looking at goaltender options throughout the league, he's not doing his job as GM.
Maybe it's good to get confirmation that Treliving is trying to address same weaknesses in the team that we see.

Subtract the Nashville game (so 12 games played), and he's still at a putrid .897.

I'm going to guess Philipp Grubauer for Cal 2nd, Hickey and Johnson.

Just noticed that Washington does have to protect Grubauer, and they're obviously going to go with Holtby - so Grubauer may be an option for the Flames at some point.

Yes, I just looked at it. Are you saying he played badly in Vancouver? I say no but he was sub-.900. He only was in for 20 minutes against AZ. The Flames were terrible and he let in a goal, so his % suffers. And he was really good versus Philly, Ottawa, Minnesota.
Save percentage is better than GAA as a stat but not a whole lot. Especially on low shot teams

I think we need to address the reasons why competent goalies come here and fail out before we add another goalie, only to have him fail out too.

That's not good goaltending, that's bottom of the barrel goaltending. I've posted this stat before, but for goalies have that started at least 20 games, Elliott ranks 44/47 in save percentage. Elliott is not good.
|
What? That's not true, not according to NHL.com
His SV% is .900, with a GAA of 2.60 since January 1st.
Comparatively (since Jan 1st):
Price - .902
Jones - .903
Crawford - .901
Vasilevsky - .898
Andersen - .894
MAF - .894
Seems like Elliott has been about as good as some of the top goalies in the league have been since the same cut-off.

Sorry if I missed something, but is there a suggestion we are trading Tkachuk?

No, but that would have been the cost at the draft. Our 1st (Tkachuk)+

This is what I mean. I watch highlights of goals around the league and lots of them would send CPers screaming if Elliott was in goal.
ETA: .891 versus .900 isn't that much over a small sample size with a couple low shot games or relief work games thrown in. Maybe a goal or two difference.

Elliott's save percentage is sub-.900 on the season, and his stats over the last little bit are indicative of this. He's made some key saves as of late at key times, but he's still not performing up to par and he's consistently lost the goaltending battle all season long.
The goaltending position needs to be upgraded.

Sigh. Was so hopeful we had solved our goaltending issues last summer.
Still hopeful Elliott can get hot these next 3-4 games. We know what we've got in Johnson.

I hope the Flames hire a new goaltending coach after this season. It's felt like such a circus these past few years

I couldn't figure out how our goalie coach escaped the last night of long knives. He should have been the first to go.

Get rid of Jordan Sigilet as the goaltending coach.

That's an interesting idea. Grubauer would certainly fit in age-wise with the core of the squad.
Feasible? I'm sure the Caps are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs. If something would happen to Holtby, they'd be hooped. Would Elliot as a return suffice? I have some doubts.
