They must have played McDavid close to 12 minutes in the third. Seemed like he was being double shifted the entire third period.

I would actually have preferred if Nashville won this game. I'm not terribly concerned about any teams behind LA, and would have liked to see the Canucks knocked down another peg.

Go Minnesota.

Huh, a game where the opposition didn't allow the Oilers to play it to a loser point. How refreshing.

Still, a sad showing from the Sens for what sounds like most of it.

How are you not concerned about Nashville? The more space we can put between us and other teams the better.

Flames two games above ".500", Oilers at an even ".500", if you go by the EV definition.

I am much more concerned about teams ahead of the Flames, and am also not convinced that Nashville poses much of a threat. As of now, the Flames are still in a playoff position even if all other teams win their games in hand.

Kind of a wild game at the UC...'Hawks owned the early game, Panarin opened the scoring, but, the next shift, Tootoo with a horrible turnover at the defensive blue line. Ekholm tied it. then Hjalmarsson shoots through 5 men, Rinne had no chance. In the 2nd, the Preds started to command the play. In the 3rd, the Preds kept coming, and tied it, when a Fisher shot trickled behind Crawford, and Watson poked it the last 4 inches. Then luck frowned at Nashville. Three shots beat Crawford cleanly, but, rang two posts and a crossbar. Then Ryan Hartman got the most unnatural natural hat-trick one would ever see. The GWG bounced in off of his pants as he drove the net on a goal mouth scramble. Then, with Rinne pulled, Hartman made a poke check in the neutral zone, and the puck rolled all the way into the net, slowly, from the center red line. Then, with Rinne still on the bench, Q tossed the kid out there to try for the hat-trick, and he did get his 3rd with a chip in from center ice.

It was a 5-2 final, but, that score is deceiving, this game could have easily gone the other way.

Also, wouldn't be surprised to see Fisher get some IR time, He took a Kempny slap shot to the foot, and was clearly in pain the rest of the game, although, he did gut out shift after shift.

Um, it would have required the Predators to win all three of their games in hand on the Flames to grab their playoff position. History suggests that such scenarios are highly unlikely.

You do realize the Preds are playing well below expectation right? They have some injuries and many predicted them to win the West. They are an absolute threat to our position and the Hawks are not, they are going to the playoffs and we are not catching them. Who cares if the Preds could have moved ahead of the Nucks, I would rather they stay back of us and lose.

Only Chicago, Minnesota and San Jose have more wins than the Flames out of teams in the western conference.

What a weird sentiment with not being concerned with the Predators...

The Flames currently have the 8th highest point percentage in the West. The Predators are 9th. The Predators are missing out on PK Subban since December 15 while Neal, Arvidsson and Wilson are inured.

While this early in the season, it's hard to give a ton of weight to Sports Club Stats, had the Predators won today they would have had a better chance of making the playoffs than Calgary...
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Western.html

They are the anti-Canucks. Even with everything going well for the Canucks, they are barely a threat. They are unsustainable and will fall back down to Earth quickly. On the other hand, Nashville has fought through some major injuries for most of the season, if they get healthy and click, they are a legitimate team to be worried about.

As much as it would be nice for the Flames to take control of their own destiny and surpass the Oilers, Kings, etc. It's still nice when a team like Chicago beats Nashville to keep a little bit of breathing room.

My favourite Bob Cole moment was this bit at the 15:00 mark of the third period:

"The Senators only managed one goal last night but they have four tonight. Can they hold on to win this game? Against what we have come to expect from this Oilers team, probably not."

But they DIDN't win. The fact of the matter is that it is exceedingly difficult to make up games in hand in this League.

So, I'm not terribly worried. What can I do?
