That's a waste of Monahan

As I said in another thread, if Johnny is a holdout, which is what the team should be having a contingency for, I'd rather see them load up a line of Backlund-Monahan-Frolik than have Ferland-Monahan-Vey get big minutes, or have Monahan getting 3rd line minutes.

Glad to hear these guys are getting jobs... somewhere else. Good on management for giving the pto's a chance to show their stuff and gather interest.

Club karma is up and hopefully the hockey gods take notice and help influence the Gaudreau contract.

Not so much a waste (I think) as a sign they expect Gaudreau to be on that line and reform that pre-existing chemistry he has with Monahan. Ferland is likely to be the RW on that line when this occurs and that's why he's there. Vey is a place holder given his waiver status. This also gives the other lines the time to gel and find their rhythm.

That or they drowned him.

The look on Grossmans face when my son bypassed him for autographs at the Red Rally yesterday.

Good for him if he did sign for another team. Always good to see these PTOs get another opportunity and big paycheck in case it's their last season.

Gulutzan is high on him from when he was a crappy Canuck last year even though he was garbage, ask any Canucks fan what they thought of that turd. Higgins was one of the first scrubs the Csucks sent down to the AHL when they went with the youth movement with 20 games left in the season. The Canucks tried to move him at the deadline and couldn't find any buyers.
Higgins is a pylon.

Huge opportunity for Ferland. Great chance to convince the doubters.

I suspect they want all the lines set for Gaudreau to come back in for Game 1 instead of screwing with every line. This tells that our first line on opening night is expected to be:

Ferland - Monahan - Gaudreau

And Vey sits.

While I am no fun of Higgins, to be fair he did have a fractured foot last year during training camp which set him back and never seemed to recover from. If he's a 13th/14th guy rather have him in that role and have a kid playing in Stockton. But as bt said yesterday, looking to get better and if an interesting player pops up on waivers, Higgins might be jettisoned

Korpikoski was heads and shoulders above Higgins!!

Hell, almost every other forward in camp was better than him. Why is he even still in camp?

I would love to see Ferly make it on the top line. Hes never going to be an elite playmaker but it would be great to see him do well. If he managed to get 40 pts, improved his puck protection and kept beasting people, that'd be great.

I'm a bit romantic over having him out there just to smash people who run at Johnny, too.

Why not? Korpikoski was released because he has signed a contract. If the Flames had any designs on signing either Higgins or Grossman I think they would have done do already. It seems likely that they will both skate with the team for a couple days and then will be released outright once camp breaks.

Sure, that's best case scenario, but as I said, if the team's only plan has Gaudreau signing and being in the lineup with no contingency in place, it's being negligent

A $6.3M centre should be able to carry his own line for a brief period. The contingency is Sean Monahan stepping up.
