Alberta went from being the most lenient to the most ridiculous province for inspections, they need to find a middle ground. It's beyond ridiculous now.

The requirements to OP a regular vehicle is beyond stupid. I bought I used 08 Dakota we took on trade out of Quebec. I knew Ball joins, brakes and a rack would be likely. No biggie. It a Chrysler.

They demanded the transmission pan, oil pan, both diff gaskets all be replaced not because they were leaking, because they were 'weeping'. Find me a truck with 120,000 kms that's not the case.

Tires, full replacement. because the manufacture spec was 265/65/17, truck had BRAND NEW 265/70/17. The irony is, I put the worn old ones on that were barely passable, and 6/32 and they passed the truck, only to bolt the new ones back on at the same shop it was inspected at.

The one that almost threw me for a fit of rage.... the power window switch, in the grouping of 4 on the drivers door, that controls the rear drivers window worked intermittently. I had to replace it.

If you have ever seen the guideline book, it is as thick as a phone book. If this is the requirements for a private passenger vehicle, imagine how over the top the Commercial side is.

It needs to change, it's too over the top.

When I had my Kenworth it would cost me on average $1000- $5000 a year to pass a CVIP. What gets me is that you have tourists hauling travel trailers that push their tow vehicle over the GVWR.

A lot of companies run incredibly dangerous crew vehicles that the managers never use. On different vehicles I've had the trailer wheels explode off when at half weight, the truckbed canopy went flying and exploded into a million shards of plastic, sharp grinding and lurching to the right and my favorite the vehicle completely shut off and the power died. This all on Deerfoot of course. None of those would have passed an inspection. In all my time driving trucks for different companies I didn't have a single cop inspect my vehicle once.

As a one-time commuter on the Alaska Highway, not surprised.

^Right there.

And yes, I agree with you. There should be no instance where the shop has to remove something in order to pass the vehicle inspection, but then is allowed to immediately put it back on the car once the inspection is passed. Your tires, my wheel spacers. If Alberta has no problem with cars being on the road with these things, why are they grounds for a failed inspection? Stupid.

Insurance inspections are the worst. Just a cash grab for anyone with a mechanics license. You can literally find hundreds of people on kijiji who will write you an inspection report without ever seeing or looking at your vehicle. Quick way for them to make $60.
