Too bad, but not a big loss if he doesn't come back.
No way they'll have room to bring him back if Mony & Johnny will be re-signed at say $7M each.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Sort of figured that Chiasson's signing meant Colborne's departure. Same size, same age, same position (though Colborne could play all 3 forward roles) but at a third of the price.

This is how it works in most industries. Go out and find out what you're worth. Sometimes it's more than you thought, sometimes it's less. Then decide if you want to stay or go. Pretty simple.
My guess is that he's not going to get so much more from another team that it makes leaving Calgary a good idea.

I like the player and would like to see him re-signed
I think Brouwer is a bit of an upgrade but he is 30...

Most I see a team offering is 2 years at $3.2-3.5 million.

Some "process" must be getting worked on if Joe isn't going to be back .
I liked him on shoot outs and that's about it. If he had have been a little more physical and had better foot speed he'd have likely stayed.
He was a reclamation project from the start if people are already forgetting.

gotta wonder if Colborne's agent over reached here?
based on advanced stats, most felt Colborne's 44 points was unsustainable based on his shooting percentage... certainly not at the rumored 4 million dollor price tag.
i don't mind colborne, but never wanted to sign him if the price was above 2, 2.25

IMO age for Colborne or Brower isn't relevant, other than concerns around if they can keep producing (Brower). People are obsessed with being young, but to me that only applies to the core, you need a young core. Colborne and Brower are complimentary players, so other than ensuring the players are effective during the tenure of contract, age is irrelevant to me.

What happened to the rumored Jets offer? Did they move from How and sign Matthias? I wonder if Joe's agent is pushing for his arbitration number on the open market. Would make sense as that's why the Flames walked.

Absolutely. I will miss him too. Was easily the best value contract the Flames had, outside of ELCs
Understandable decision by the Flames to move on now though, at what is surely his price point - and I wish him the very best wherever he lands. I hope he scores 25 next year, for someone in the east.

I'm actually kind of surprised he hasn't signed in VAN already. I figured they would have sent him one of his bigger offers.

I kind of expect Monahan, Gaudreau, and Colborne deals to be announced sometime during Stampede week.

I'm doubting the Flames will have cap room to bring back big Joe once Johnny & Mony are taken care of.

They have 18.5 in cap.
Johnny + Mony = 13.5
Nak = 1
Colby = 3.5
That leaves .5 million.

How would his agent overreach? The Flames didn't even give Joe a qualifying offer.
