i see the employees picking stuff all the time for these kinds of orders - they pull stuff right off the shelves and the fresh produce from the produce section.
it sort of surprises me actually... if they could get stuff from "the back" of the store before it goes out to the floor it would save money (less time to get stuff as i'm sure the back storage area is a smaller area than the main grocery store and you also save the restocking of the grocery store shelves). it would also reduce 'congestion' in the store as employees have large carts with multiple bins they are filling at any given time

I'd try it out, it seems like a good idea. But like someone said, I'd be concerned about getting expired products. That's the #1 thing I check when I shop. Even canned goods. Every once in a while I'll find an older item on the shelf. Even when I shop for milk or baked goods I'll always take the most recent one. While the staff who select your milk might have picked one that hasn't expired yet, they probably will take the one closer to expiry date then the fresher milk at the back. Will they sort through the produce to find the ones that don't have bruises or are damaged? Will they select the older baked goods instead of the fresher ones?
Probably not. I'll bet they are even mandated to take the older stuff so they can get rid of it and sell it before it expires. Why dig around in the back to get the fresher stuff when in management's eyes the older stuff is technically still good to sell? To me that's a deal breaker.

I don't know that they would dig around to the back of the cooler to find the newest milk, for example, but if they fill all the orders with poor quality produce, it soon would lose appeal to customers. I imagine for the first several months at least, they would want to make sure it was in good shape so that people continue to use the service.

It will depend on the employee picking your order and how much he cares.
He will either take a moment to go thru and exclude the bruised tomatoes, or his shift ends as soon as he's done picking order #186 for customer #190567 and will grab the first available products.
It's only a $5 service, that saves you, the customer a lot of time by not finding parking, getting a cart, traversing the aisles, and waiting in line for cashier.
Brand new concept for loblaws, it will take some time to perfect, but I think they are on the right track. If meats, and produce of the lowest quality start trending for click and collect customers it will be corrected, they want this to succeed.

I didn't mind it so much aside from two things:
1) Navigating the website, trying to find the things that I wanted to get.
2) All the bags that they use to bag your stuff. I usually have a cardboard box in my car to put all that stuff away, so I don't tend to take bags.

I hope they make an app for this. I would easily do this on the fly, adding and editing as the week goes on and then order at the end of the week.

I've used this a couple of times and I quite like it.
I found the website easy to navigate. You can shop "aisle by aisle" or specifically target only the things you need. If you use your PC card when you shop in person, you can get the online site to call up a list of the things you most commonly buy. From there you can easily build a standard list and just hit that thing every other week. Seeing what you buy and how often you buy it all laid out for you can be a little creepy! I thought my mango habit was a secret. Nope. PC knows. It knows all. It will tell you before you check out if there are any specials, discounts, or quantity-buys available for the stuff you picked out.
I was happy with the level of the produce. I don't know if they pick from the sales floor, or from the back before produce is laid out. I had no issues with the fresh fruits and veggies. I was even happy with the substitution they offered because they were out of my favourite kind of apples.
I bought some stuff from the bulk bins and found that quantities were within 50 grams of what I'd specified. That's more than accurate enough for me.
You can specify online if you want bags or not. I said no, and two cheerful kids loaded my groceries into the folding boxes I keep in the car. They even put the frozen stuff right in the cooler without needing to be reminded.
I liked the ability to review everything in my basket before checkout, and knowing ahead of time exactly what the price was going to be. I find when I'm using the online service, I only buy from my list. I don't pick out any junk food, snacks, or extra goodies. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though.
For a recluse and a misanthrope like myself - I would totally recommend it. It's quick, convenient, and there's none of that nasty "going out and dealing with the public".

Used it twice, and will never step foot in that wretched hell hole again. I love this service. I think it's really catching on though so I suspect pickup times will begin to be a problem.

Thank goodness. AS the person who gets the groceries, I am definitely going to try this out. Seems like a good time saver, and this way my wife can't get after me for picking out the wrong such and such. Can't believe I haven't heard about this before.

Other stores need to be doing this...Costco and Safeway, I'm looking at you. I'd gladly pay almost any reasonable fee for someone to have my costco order sitting in a cart, ready to go when I get there.

I bet Costco's sales would plummet. There's so much impulse shopping for unnecessaries there. Plus their stock changes on so many things so often so it might be hard to keep a consistent website.
I hate going to Costco about as much as Wal Mart. I would definitely shop there more if I didn't have to go in.

I tried to use the service at Westhills, but gave up after a message that they were too busy or something.
What I really hope this will do, however, is reduce the number of people who feel the need to bring their whole family with them. I understand that the single parents often have no choice, but I routinely see two adults with kids in my way throughout the store.

I used this service yesterday.
The website can be a little slow. I think this is the worst part of the experience. But I was able to find pretty much everything I wanted. I placed the order on Sunday with a pick up of Monday from 3-5pm. Doesn't look like you can do same day pick up.
I got a text message at 2:02pm stating that my order was ready for pickup during my time slot. I went over to the store around 3:45. I called the phone number and told them that I was here to pick up my order. Took them a couple minutes to find my order, sounded like she was shuffling through papers, not looking up the info on a computer. Maybe there is a stock room with everything picked and she was looking for the correct cart.
She notified me there were a couple items out of stock. On the website I said don't substitute anything, but on the phone she went through one by one to explain what could be substituted. I basically ended up saying yeah, sure. I'm not that picky.
She went through the store and picked up the substituted items and then came with the cart out to my car in the designated spot. Probably about 10 minutes after the initial phone call.
She showed me the substituted items and said that if I didn't like then I don't have to take them.
I think in the future I will have the website substitute and then accept or reject them before pickup. I know people on here didn't like the substituted items, but I think it should be ok for me, I don't really mind that much.
My credit card on file didn't go through, so she brought the machine out to me and I paid in the parking lot.
I picked some produce as well and nothing was expired and everything picked looked pretty good. I don't have any complaints about that.
All in all a really great service and one that I will be using again since the superstore is on my way home from work. The $3 service fee is saved by not shopping at Safeway a few times over i'm sure.

Only wealthy people can afford a $3 charge? We're not that poor here
