What pisses me off the most about this is that the kings get out of his contract. I just want the kings to somehow get dealt a bad hand...

I would think that it probably came as a request from Lecalvalier to see if there was any team out there at all that would take him on before retiring. Probably just wanting to be sure that there was no interest, instead of taking Lombardi's word for it?

How is this not cap circumvention ?
basically forced retirement to get out of the contract , on a we'll give you a chance to play trade .

They're still stuck with the Brown and Gaborik contracts so it's not all good.

Ok the mystery of waivers is solved.

Kings are terminating the contract so they don't have to payout the $500k signing bonus due on July 1st, which apparently would have had to be paid out even with his retirement papers filed.

really hoped he'd screw the Kings.

awesome career. Won a cup (blech), won a Richard trophy, played over 1200 games and made a ####load of money. Well done.
