What I think this shows us is how god awful the Flames were so often before the trade deadline. The Flames right now look like the better roster against most of the Wild Card level teams. They were certainly better for most of this game against a desperate Avalanche team which needed this win. And have been doing this frequently since the Penguins game.
Hopefully these Flames show up next season as oppose to the train wreck which put them in lottery position hole.
I dunno, the Flames have outplayed various teams this year and lost. Not just lately. Bad luck puck for most of the year. We're a lot better than the record would suggest. As Joni is showing, this team just needed decent goaltending.
Flames 8, Nordiques 8, tie

QUEBEC (AP) _ The Calgary Flames tied an NHL record by scoring two goals, both short- handed, in four seconds and also had three goals in a 27-second span during the third period Tuesday night to pull into an 8-8 tie with the Quebec Nordiques.
With the Flames' Gary Roberts off for roughing in the final minute, Calgary (4-1-2) pulled goaltender Mike Vernon and sent five attackers against the Nordiques.
Doug Gilmour scored with a quick shot from the left faceoff circle at 19:45 and then fed Paul Ranheim off the ensuing faceoff for the tying goal at 19:49 on a wrist shot from the top of the slot.
Three other teams have scored two goals within four seconds, most recently Toronto last December. The shortest time ever between goals is two seconds, accomplished by St. Louis and Boston in 1987.
kinda feel bad for Ortio. As has been the case many nights since his callup, he didn't have a chance on goals 1 or 2, and it'd have been nice if he got the bounce for goal 3 too.
Just got back from the game. Pretty annoyed at some Flames fans right now. Whoever decided it was okay to smoke fat joints during the intermissions, invite all your buddies to fill vacant seats around you, and yell homophobic and racial slurs all game long, #### you. Was glad all of you got kicked out.
Other than that, decent game all around I guess. Shorthanded goals are awesome. Shootouts where everyone fumbles the puck are not.

Boston scored 3 SHG on the same penalty previously.
I noticed that Dennis Wideman was out on that PK. Different times, eh?

The train wreck was October, full stop. 3-8-1 in October with a –23 goal differential. Since Nov. 1, 27-27-5 and –3. Not a great record, but good enough to be fixed with a bit of goaltending and some actual give-a-crap on special teams.
