Yes indeed, but maybe they are aiming for Auston?

Yeah, I was wondering the same yesterday. Without checking, I would guess that this has not ever happened in the past.

1969-1970 would be the last time no Canadian teams made the playoffs. The only Canadian teams back then were the Leafs and Habs though.

In a weird way, I hope that Canadian clubs start losing money. Maybe it'll jolt them into thinking, Hmmm maybe we need to start winning to start making money again?
Mr Katz is the perfect example. Mr Lowe confirmed it when he said the master plan was to have the team finally trending upwards when the new rink is opened. They openly stated they were tanking, yet still made money.

Edmonton's long term incompetence does not reflect on the other six teams, five of which made the playoffs last year.
We're just in a strange part of the cycle where each Canadian team is rebuilding, on the way down, or in Montreal's case, lost the backbone of their organization to extended injury.

A lot of this is on Therrien. David Desharnais continues to get top minutes. He's a third line player, tops. He pissed away a first round defenseman because he wouldn't give him time to learn his position. Meanwhile, Markov plays giveaway and "it's ok, because he's a veteran". Galchenyuk keeps being pushed to the wing. Just put him between Pacioretty and Gallagher for crying out loud. Plekanec is not a first line centre.

No surprises here. They were pretty bad with an unreal goalie, unreal goalie is removed from the equation and the 'pretty bad' is pretty much all they were left with.
Therrien is not some unrecognized genius whose brilliance has recently failed him. His entire process was:
"Okay, Carey is playing. Who else....ha! Doesnt matter."

Coaching is a issue. The GM also needs to take some blame. Price covered up a lot of warts. There is more going on than just goaltending problems.

No question.
However, goaltending problems lead to other problems. Hockey is all about confidence.
When you have confidence in your goalie, and he is making big saves, you are always in the game. And you come to trust that, at some point, you'll get that goal to win the game. That confidence allows the players to relax, which helps facilitate it happening. Thus, better goaltending leads to more confidence, which leads to more offense.
Conversely, when mistakes end up in your net, players lose confidence and play more carefully and tentatively. This can destroy their offensive flow. They also find themselves trailing more often, which means the other team is probably playing more defensively (and also probably with more confidence).
And these things tend to snowball: winning breeds winning, and losing breeds more losing.
It is only one aspect of the game, and everyone has to be held accountable for their own role.
But there is a very good reason for the old saying: goaltending is 70% of hockey - unless you don't have it, and then it's 100%!

They have no depth. The Price injury had badly exposed this.
You cannot fire Therrien with the league's reigning MVP injured. The team is not near as good as everyone thought.
This is the biggest collapse of any team missing it's star I can recall.

Maybe they are waiting/hoping the Flames fire Hartley. They were interested in him at the time the Flames hired him.

Pretty astonishing that one player is the difference between 1st place and 30th but that's exactly what Price is to that team. Surely their other goaltenders haven't been as bad as Hiller/Ortio/Ramo.

Maybe Bergevin should have held off on the "I support the coach" presser until after the back to back with the Blue Jackets.

When Montreal misses the playoffs, then tank and end up drafting near the top. Just like Tampa Bay.
I hope they don't pick top 3 again like in 2012.

Got to laugh when everyone was drooling over them after that excellent start they had. Such a 1 man team its untrue. Would laugh a lot if they miss the play offs.
