Do the concessions make more money at 20 degrees vs 15?

The answer to the question is, they will not.
The ice has been bad for nearly a decade now, it was really bad about 4-5 years ago. It used to be that teams took pride in the quality of their ice. Edmonton had the best ice in the league for years and Dan Craig parlayed that into his league duties, the Olympics, etc.
If the team was going to address it, they would have by now. It seems we've heard a number of reasons, real or imagined that they have or haven't addressed. As I recall there was an overhaul to the plant a number of years ago, the flood, playing around with temperature, the switch from Olympia resurfacing units to Zamboni.

Just ask Ken King at the next season ticket holder event, I'm sure he'll be really thankful for your interest in the team.

If in any way it was an equipment problem you'd think they would have fixed it after the flood. Pretty sure they replaced the ice making equipment at that time.

The rink where the Ontario Reign play is freezing ass cold.
They had a #### zamboni driver who laid too much water down at one end that took a long time to finally freeze, but other than that, the ice seemed good.
Maybe zamboni driver quality is a contributing factor to ice quality?

Obviously I don't play on the ice surfaces but from what I see on TV the Flames without a doubt look to have the worst ice of all the Canadian teams as pucks bounce around just as much as the US cities that have bad ice.

Came to say the same thing.
It is cold in the jobing.com arena. I think I read somewhere that they keep it at 55 degrees (13 celcius).
The Dome used to be cold, years ago but now it is much warmer. My wife used to wear her coat the entire game, but not anymore. Don't know the temperature, but I would guess it's closer to 20 degrees than 13.
I am no ice expert, but as everyone says, pretty sure a colder rink would mean better ice.
Between being comfortable as a fan (20 degrees) and having better ice, I would choose a colder rink and better ice.
It costs a lot of money to sit there - I expect the best hockey possible. And that includes better ice.

Cold arenas.
Nothing compares to Alex Alberta.
If I recall there is a CP member who's related to the rink rat. If you read this tell him he sucks and it is Too Damn Cold in his rink.
I will 3rd the Phoenix comments.
First time I was there was around 2010 with a buddy. We were smashed, so the rink didn't feel cold. Went back 2 years ago with my wife and kids. Went to the game and told the kids to wear shorts and t-shirts as i found the rink hot.
I was the only one that found humour in our predicament.

When I played minor hockey in that arena we would have several hairdryers on the bench to warm up our skates between shifts.

I have only experienced one colder, that is Marysville in BC.
That being said, I remember 2 years ago being in the Igloo in Bowden and there were sheets of ice up the walls.

Had a tournament in Regina once upon a time. It was in what looked to be an actual barn(the walls were made out that ruffles chip looking metal). Half the rink had plexiglas, the other half was a chain link fence about half the height of the glass. There was about 2 inches of ice on the inside walls near the benches. Coldest rink ive ever played in, bar none. I think it was about -40 outside at that time and it felt colder in the arena than outside

Didn't the Dome used to have one of the best ice surfaces in the NHL?
If that's the case, the Flame and # in the crowd didn't change. Maybe they keep it warmer in there now and it messed everything up. That would be plausible.

I find that the Flames increasing the temperature of the arena to appease fans a silly idea, and if it is actually affecting the quality of the ice, then Flames are doing their players and fans a disservice.
It's a bloody hockey arena; it's not meant to be warm when the ice is down. Cool it a bit to improve the ice conditions. Fans are still going to come to the game even if they have to wear a sweater instead of a T-shirt.

I remember going to the Red and White game in 2010 in shorts and sandals.
Granted it was in June, but still, it should be cold in the arena!

To be fair, you are probably suffering from minor heat stroke from the beautiful Arizona climate and you just feel much colder... I've only been once and don't remember it being that cold, but I drink a lot and memories are foggy

I remember, as a kid, playing at the rink in Indus and that was the coldest rink ever. It was brutal.
We were at the Dome last weekend during their family skate and the ice was awesome. Obviously the conditions change during game day when the Dome is packed and when pros are skating on it.
I still recall my first experience skating on the long track at the Oval when it had been prepped for a world cup event. It was such a different experience. I had years of experience skating and playing hockey but skating on that ice was really difficult.

I have been to rinks in Phx, LA and Anaheim and they were all FREEZING cold! This is coming from a guy who's never cold either.
In any event when I went back in recent years the buildings were fine. I would be walking around with my beer, shorts and Flames jersey taking in the scene. It dawned on me that when I had gone to previous games and the rink being cold I didn't have a desire to really drink beer, more food than anything.
I remember reading an article from the Calgary-based owner of the Coyotes to a local AZ paper and he mentioned this exact fact. One of the things he did when he took over was upgrade the ice equipment and bring in some more experienced employee's. This allowed the temperature to be raised in the building a few degree's. People can now walk in from the golf course and watch a game! This was a paraphrased quote from the owner "We are in the hockey experience which includes a cold beer. The way we had the building in previous years did nothing to boost cold drinks like beer. Now you can enjoy a cold beverage in comfort"
Makes sense! Bring on the beer sales! ice quality be dammed

I asked Ken King this question at an event just a couple weeks ago.
He basically took offense to the question and flat out disagreed, then proceeded to claim they think they have the best ice in the league and that the last 3 teams that played us all told the Flames that too. Oh and the puck bounces "because that's what pucks do, has nothing to do with the ice" lol.
So basically he's got his head buried in the sand as usual.
Don't expect any improvement as long as we're playing in the Dome.
But don't worry Ken King once told me we'd be playing in a new arena by 2014....oh wait.
How he still has a job, let alone is the Pres, is beyond me.
