All about the T.V deals it certainly isn't a growth in attendance. So many US markets are horrendous for attendance. It would be real interesting to see how long old Gary would stick with 5000-10000 fans at Canadian based teams. The American teams that do struggle seem to have an extremely long rope.

Since the Federal election the Canadian $ has lost 10% of its value against the USD.

Since the Flames signed Hamilton on June 30 to a 6.48 M CDN contract the price has gone up to 8.05 M CDN ... an extra 1.5M / year

The Flames have an inventory of 19,000 * 41 = 787 k seats to sell... to make up the 1.5 (extra due to exchange) they would have to raise ticket prices on each and every seat $1.90.

With the CDN $ at 1.40 for any length of time (Government policy for the next 4 years is for a low CDN $ to help manufacturing and fight climate change) there will be 2 NHL teams left.

Not going to quote you (on behalf of the army of Ricardodw ignorers), but why on earth would you single out Hamilton's contract when talking about the Canadian dollar?

Every single player playing on every Canadian team has had their salary affected in exactly the same way.

And it is irrelevant. HRR is a natural hedge against the dollar. If the CAD weakens, HRR will also suffer.

It is mind boggling why you care so much about salaries - it isn't coming out of your pocket.

They will do whatever it takes to keep revenues and the cap going up.

The will have 30 outdoor games in a single season before they take a paycut. Nothing to worry about here.

No, they will only do whatever is possible. That won't always be enough.

What makes you think that the market for outdoor games is big enough to make 30 of them profitable?

If I lived in CGY and the Flames hosted one every year, I would go every year.
