Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

RIP to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to all veterans and those currently serving. My grandfather was in the Dutch underground during WW2 and he never was able to share his experiences with his family.

Thank you for those that paid the ultimate price so that we can live in freedom today. Thank you to those currently serving to protect us.

It is now our duty as a society to see that we never forget. So that the sacrifices of entire generations is not forgotten.

Thank you.

Come on man!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...gary-1.3314084

The number of poppy donation boxes stolen this year in Calgary has now reached 24.

Calgary police say two more boxes, containing money donated for poppies, were stolen on Remembrance Day.

Maybe they should re-think these boxes. Give them 2 containers, so a few times a day(depending on how busy) the store owner can empty the cash into another box behind the counter.

Anyone attend any Remembrance Day ceremonies? Just due to it being close to my place, I went to the one on top of (or halfway up) Signal Hill. It was the 100th anniversary of the hill first being used to deploy troops, which made it extra special. Lots of people there.

It was a really nice ceremony (aside from the idiot somewhat near me who's dog wouldn't stop barking through most of it, but he wouldn't leave), HAWCS helicopter did a flyover at one point.

Today I remember my grandfather who was a Lancaster bomber co-pilot. He was shot down on his first mission over Germany, captured and sent to Stalag Luft III. My understanding is that his role in the Great Escape was that of a "Penguin". Those were the guys who carried pocketfulls of excavated dirt and spread it around the yard. He was marched to another camp before the escape happened. He survived the war to return home to my Grandma and Dad.

I had a great day.

Remembrance service wearing my medal for the first time. I also started the painful process of applying for the other medal and award I qualify for.

Ended the day with a family hike.

Took the family to the Military Museums in the afternoon. None of us had been there before, and it was good.

Trying to explain war to kids who are 6 and 8 is a little tough. What was it like for the soldiers? Awful of course, but it's so far beyond what I've ever experienced, that I had a hard time explaining it to my kids.

Walked over to the Field of Crosses before the ceremony there, the kids were asking a few questions and always wanted us to stop and read any information put on crosses about the particular people.

Very powerful, very emotional, my wife was crying quite a bit while reading out some of the letter/notices.

I was incredibly happy to see that so many people came for the service that blocks and blocks around my house you couldn't find a place to park your car on the street.

Hypocritical and ironic. The day seems designed to convince another generation to fight more wars on behalf of the government controlled by the powers that be. Cant wait till robot soldiers so this charade will end.

Do you feel good about posting that?

Feel edgy?

Yeah, I can imagine you had a smug look followed by a self high five.
