He was one of the greats. Really miss him on the rare occasion that I'm listening to the game on the radio.

Peter Maher's play by play painted a mental picture better than anyone I have ever heard.

Maher is a legend, one of the all-time greats. But the last couple/few years he was really slipping and it was time for him to retire.

booooring!

also, what a terrible title "Flames Insider" .. more like "Flames media speak guy". He never shared a single bit of "inside" info, just news that was either already reported or filtered by the club.

the guy would have plenty of inside information to share but never did.

wish him well with his part time job but glad he is off the Flames broadcast.
But other than calling games on the radio, that was his job.

Sure, he was called an 'insider' and he was one, but thats information he cannot share.

Maher wasnt really a journalist, he was a broadcaster and he was privileged with information because he was trusted not to share it and he didnt.

You say that like hes in the wrong, but most media or radio guys know a helluva lot more than they share because sharing that information is akin to killing the Goose that lays the golden egg.

Maher is/was a consummate Professional in all aspects of what he did.

There's a reason he was chosen to be the radio voice for the 2010 Olympics.

Well, the HHOF agrees he was an all-time great, and so does every other all time industry great. The man has been praised by industry giants. I get that you may have individual taste, but the man was universally praised by people that actually know what the hell they are talking about.

So basically, you have bad taste.

I can't take anyone seriously when they question Maher's delivery of the game. He was simply one of the very best.

Towards the end of his career, his accuracy wasn't nearly as good but he always called a great game.

I hope he wasnt voluntold to retire. They replaced him with a Guy Smiley sound-alike who probably had never been west of Peoria until last year.
Wills is getting better at the pre and post games segments however. Actually has some intelligent things to say now.

Derek and Peter are both really nice people and good broadcasters.
