I know 5pm has come and gone, but I love me a good driving route extravaganza.

If I were to have suggested a route it would have been Crowchild to Charleswood to John Laurie to 14th to 64th. As you approach 64th, if Deerfoot looks like a parking lot, take the back way to Airport trail via Aero drive. If not, hit Deerfoot and away you go.

It sounds a bit odd, but I have done it before and it works quite well.

The wildcard is NB Crowchild. If its a moving parking lot then just go with it, if it a gawd awful mess then you're stuck. If you go the Sarcee route, you have pretty much committed to the long way around. But there can still be traffic westbound Glenmore and northbound sarcee so its not a guranteed smooth trip.

Fastest way north to airport in rush hour from Crow/Glenmore is Crowchild-right lane to pass backup at Bow/Memorial-Bow east-left lane to 11st-Bow west to 14th st N-64th east-Deerfoot north to Airport road. Only slow part will be 14th until just past Kensington, but way shorter than sitting on Crowchild to 24th.

Crowchild is ALWAYS a mess northbound. It's a like a death trap from at least 33 Ave if not further south anytime near 3:30ish pm and onwards.

I get this is long over, but why not get a taxi or town car to pick them up? It's got to be close on gas, and when you factor in your time, I think you come out ahead.

^ it is the Inlaws. They want to spend time with the grandkids on the way to the airport. They only see them 2-3x per year.

Resolution : got stuck in traffic on highway 1 due to construction and an accident on Stoney meant my wife had to take them (and cancel her appointment to do so). I was able to watch the pre game show for the final game in peace.

"I am really sorry honey but there was an accident on Highway 1. I really, really wanted to drive to the airport at the busiest time of the day, after rushing home from work, to pick up my lovely Mother and Father in Law. I even made a thread on CP to find the best route. See, here it is. Darn. I guess I will just sit at home all by myself and wait for you guys to get home. Why don't you stop and have a nice meal with your parents so you can catch up without having to cook or anything? I will just sit here and maybe order a pizza for myself and see what is on TV."

EB Glenmore to Deerfoot. She left at 4:30 and was home for 6:10

That's actually pretty incredible time at that time of day, considering the ramp from Crowchild to EB Glenmore is always backed up.

I work down in Currie Barracks and live in Panorama... at that time, I go Richardson Way to 37 St. to Bow Trail to to Sarcee to Highway 1, then up Stoney. This isn't because it's faster or anything, but I just like it because I'm constantly moving.
