March 22nd practice - Ramo starts vs Avs

Two very bad unforced defensive errors led to goals against Columbus, otherwise it would have been a comfortable win. Previously they've had the offensive momentum to keep going but in that particular game only had the one line going.

Plenty of room for changes on the other lines and plenty of guys with room to improve. It will reflect badly on those players if they start disappearing now and expect the first line to carry them.

I think it'll be okay.

As for the goalies, I think at this point they're evaluating style and history against the opponent more than rewarding the winning goalie or switching the losing one.

I actually kind of like Ramo's positioning better (with the exception of the last Avs game), lately Hiller just seems a little off maybe its just me? I hate how he plays so deep in his net...

I don't catch every Flames game just bits n pieces here n there, but when I do watch, Ramo appears to push off his skate for lateral movement better, whereas Hiller often looks awkward to me.

Ya both have their strengths and weaknesses. Hiller gets beat high glove a lot and sometimes short side. Ramo overplays and puts himself out of position. Both are really good when they're on but both have been known to give up softies.

Ya, Hiller is typically more fundamentally sound and in better position but there's just something about his stance lately that often looks lacksy-daisy, whereas Ramo looks like he's knees-bent positioned and ready, but anyways...like you said they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Looks like Hartley has challenged Granlund to get some secondary scoring going.

Markus Granlund is a rarity among young NHLers.

Despite his inexperience in the league, the Calgary Flames rookie centre has a strong defensive side to his game.

In fact, it’s to the point the club wants the 21-year-old to start pushing for more at the other end of the rink.

“He’s super smart, both with or without the puck,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. “It’s just up to him to take the next step.”

Granlund has collected five goals and 13 points in 39 NHL games this season — on top of nine goals and 17 points in 21 AHL clashes — proof he’s capable of chipping in offence.

But he may need a push to shoot for more, much the same kind of shove Hartley gave to Granlund’s teammate Mikael Backlund early last season.

“That’s a good comparison,” Hartley said. “Backs and Granny, they’re kind of in the same mould.”

I like Granlund a lot. He seems really aware on the ice when it comes to defensive awareness, and has some offensive skills that he'll grow more confident in using as time goes on.

Hopefully he works hard over the summer and pushes for an NHL spot in camp. Given his poor FO%, and our glut of young centremen, he might be the best candidate to move to the wing permanently.

And with Sven gone, he has a better chance of making the team permanently next year.

Can you imagine the two way threat of a line consisting of Bouma, Backlund, and Granlund. Now we just need to find elements of a good 2nd line and we're ready to go.

I really don't think that Baertschi's absence has any bearing. He sure wasn't in Granlund's way while he was still here.

Here's hoping he finds his scoring touch again.

You know, what always seperated a city like Calgary and say Toronto or Montreal is the players could have a personal life away from the game.

Nobody cares what they drink,how much they drink or even what the chic looked like they took home. If it's not game related please keep it to yourself and these players might just love our city.

Oh no, I definitely agree with what you're saying. I'm just simply stating that Granlund doesn't have to worry about Sven anymore. If Sven stayed another year with us, he probably would've made the team.

I care, can you give a day and time they usually frequent this place I have a pile of stuff that needs signed. Also is the food any good? I'm not up in Calgary that much these days.
