I have to disagree. When I want a sports channel I'm usually looking for something specific to watch. I actually never want poker or screaming ESPN shows on in the background.

I've noticed that when I turn my TV on in the morning it's invariably on Sportsnet just because I've watched a game the night before. That won't change for me until CFL starts and even then I watch far more MLB than I do CFL so I'll just have Sportsnet on even moer.

I agree that TSN might have a tough time with NHL games going on all the time but they're still set up pretty nicely.

They'll likely have all the Raptors playoff games in April (and May hopefully), and with the Leafs out of the playoffs they will basically have all of Toronto watching those games.

French Open starts up in late May as well and TSN's tennis coverage has been amazing. Such great timing for TSN as well with both Genie and Milos as rising Canadian stars.

But all this really comes down to is more variety for the Canadian sports consumer. Ill be able to watch Jays games in two months on Sportsnet, playoff hockey on sports net, playoff basketball on TSN, Sunday night baseball on TSN, I have no complaints.

What are your specific beefs? Depending on who is on the panel the discussion at times has been good.

The raptors playoff games, especially if they advance to the second round, will net huge ratings for TSN. I would bet that they outdraw any NHL playoff games on sportsnet.
The demographics in this country are changing, basketball and soccer are gaining in popularity and TSN has pretty much no competition in those areas with sportsnet so heavily leveraged towards hockey.

The Tournament of Hearts and the Brier are also big for TSN. They pull a half million viewers a night for the prime-time draws and as much as 1.5 million for the final.

Sportsnet and Sportsnet One do have NBA regular season games as part of their contract.

I'll have it on Sportsnet. Don't need the ill informed Aaron Ward telling us that a trade happened and to book it.

You prefer the ill-informed Nick Kypreos?

Even with Dreger, I'll take TSN. I can take Strombolopolus being smarmy in small doses. Not on an all-day program where the camera won't leave the panel.

I enjoy the Sportsnet war room where they talk to retired players/coaches about trade deadline deals and other stories. On trade deadline day there is usually a fair bit of downtime and it fills that time nicely.

He also said the Flames could make the POs when everybody thought we'd be in McDavid territory. :-)

Dreger is a D grade journalist and another reason not to watch that panel. Kypreos isn't great either, but he's slightly better than Dreger.

If I see Dreger on TV I change the channel, if I see Dreger's mug on the internet I change the website, If someone mentions his name in public I shoot them.

Ok, last part was a lie (I'm not american)

I watch TSN for Sportscentre, but I would guess I am on a sportsnet channel 80% of the time when I am watching a sport.
