I am more of a suburban yop gobbler myself, so never in my own home. However my latte-sipping brother does, just as one example.
I guess the answer to your question is any building (house/parkade/etc.) where the lowest elevation of the building is lower than the sewer service from the street. So I imagine in many older neighbourhoods, particularly with in-fills.
As I said in my earlier post, a sump pump can be utilized for either sewage or storm water. It would then tie in to the appropriate city sewer or storm system, depending on how the sump is being used. So yes, there are lots of sewage sump pumps in Calgary that do tie into the sewer system, and it is all good by code.
