Is Glencross re signed?
Great contract value right now which could be a valuable trading chip + he has stated that no hometown discount will be given this time around.
What is a reasonable number for a 32 year old? His point totals are pretty similar year after year with this year showing a huge drop in goals but increase in assists and increase in PIMS.
4.00 for 1 year?
3.25 for 2 years?
2.5 for 4 years?
Trade?

Hiller has to be worth more than a second rounder. Berra was worth that, and he was a pure rental, as opposed to Hiller being under a contract.

I think it is possible Ortio will be able to sneak through waivers next season.
Markstrom is considered a better goaltending prospect that Ortio and the Canucks got him through.

This drives me a little crazy.
It seems that with the new CBA guys walk off the draft floor and immediately are RFA's.

I really think goalies should be waiver exempt longer than skaters are. They almost always take longer to develop.

they already do. Goalies get an extra year of exemption compared to skaters if they sign their NHL contracts before 22 years of age

but they are. When signing the first ELC between 18 and 22, goalies get an extra year.
player signs at 18: goalie is exempt for 6 years or 80 games, skater for 5 years or 160 games
player signs at 19: goalie is exempt for 5 years or 80 games, skater for 4 years or 160 games
player signs at 20: goalie is exempt for 4 years or 80 games, skater for 3 years or 160 games
player signs at 21: goalie is exempt for 4 years or 60 games, skater for 3 years or 80 games
player signs at 22: goalie is exempt for 4 years or 60 games, skater for 3 years or 70 games
player signs at 23: goalie is exempt for 3 years or 60 games, skater for 3 years or 60 games
player signs at 24: goalie is exempt for 2 years or 60 games, skater for 2 years or 60 games
player signs at 25: goalie is exempt for 1 year, skater for 1 year
EDIT: and of course I'm sureLossed. Why do I even bother?

I don't think you can use that trade as a baseline...that one looked wildly lopsided to everyone but Roy. I doubt anyone else in the league would've given us more than a 4th for the guy.
Honestly, it's tough to use any goalie trade as a comparable. Goalie transactions seem to be all over the map, so who really knows what you could get for Hiller. The pessimist in me doubts it would be much more than a second, but who knows.

Ahhh, nope.
They still get 3 year entry level deals, just like they always did.

I imagine giordano will be re-signed this coming summer for $7 million+ and that will leave the rest of the kids for the span of the 2015-2016 season. If gaudreau and Monahan continue to develop as well as they have into next season, I think the smart move by treliving will be to shoot for the long term deals. Unlike Brodie and backlund... Seems like these guys won't need a bridge deal to prove their value as it already looks like they are doing that in their rookie contract. Probably $5 million per year for 5 years for each of them. Maybe longer for Monahan cause he is younger so the flames can buy more years before he is UFA eligible.
Hudler is an interesting case... Hard to know what the plan will be with him. If he is re-signed it might not be till the end of the season that his contract expires. He's been a great veteran player or the team and if the flames keep on track they should be a favoured destination for veterans like him looking for a competitive team that looks poised for a playoff push for the foreseeable future.
I could see granlund getting a bridge contract like Brodie and backlund. I could also see colborne getting a 3 or 4 year deal worth $3-4 million per season if he continues from where he left off when he got hurt.

A three year standard first contract is a fair length and it is the same if not better than previous CBAs

Oh, I know, but for anything except a rental, you get a player in return, plus maybe a pick. Hiller's a good goalie who a contender will want.

Glencross' points and age get him Doan/Dubinsky/Pominville/Clowe money. All are at 4+, with substsantial term.

Let's be careful. This was Edmonton's game plan.

Plenty of players get long term deals right after their ELC and have it work out for everyone involved. Edmonton's suck is the exception, not the rule.

I'm hoping for $72M or less. Crunch some of those contending clubs and see if there are people the Flames can scoop up.
If we even want to. This team really looks like it doesnt need much in the way of outside help.

So what is general consensus on CP? If Glencross wants more than a year on a 4 million dollar deal, what do you do? Ideally, the flames already know what he wants and if it is not within range, you trade him at the deadline.
Our FWD and LW depth is fantastic to the point that I take a 2nd for Glencross at the trade deadline.
IMO, the only guys who are in their 30's and should be north of 4 million are players we consistently hear about through media and other players. There is no question about Gio and his teammates always vouch for his leadership. Jiri has put up great numbers and we always hear of him playing a huge role with the kids. Wideman is overpaid but has been a game changer and we were desperate on the back end & Jones won't be close to the 4 million range after the current contract is up.

Markstrom might have been considered the better prospect three years ago, but he was a hot mess at the NHL level. Easy to sneak that through.
That said, goaltending isn't like like the skating positions. There are only 60 jobs, and most of them are filled. Teams aren't likely to put a waiver claim in on a nearly unproven goalie.

How many at the $5 million you want to give? Not Gallagher ($3.75).
