What name was the OP looking for? Unless there are obvious ones, like a Crosby, I think the problem for them keeping a supply is the shifting nature of the names and the resulting production problems. You don't want a stockroom of 15K Phaneuf Calgary Flames jerseys.
Selling the ready made jersey = easy. Even though putting the name and number on sound easy, it's a whole different factory and a one time order.
NFL is huge compared to NHL, in numbers and dollars. I can see why it's cost effective to do that.

Ice Jerseys is pretty good and are quick.
They have one of the better selection of ready made players in stock (although strangely enough, no Gio) and most times you get the jersey within 2 weeks.

Same, I'm still debating who to get though. Gaudreau has never worn that jersey, so he's out.

Don't know when the annual one is, but they discount lettering at the end of year gear sale.
Picked up a retro and had McGrattan sewn on for <$100.

They usually have a big Christmas sale at the end of November or beginning of December when the Flames are out of town.
This year, it will probably be the last weekend of the month. The Hitmen have games on the Friday and Saturday, so the sale might not be until the Sunday depending on how much time they need for setup and tear-down.
