Obviously the Rangers didn't bother to consult Ricardow or look through the hours of statistics he's complied on Stempniak that conclude he's pillowy soft and the spawn of satan.

Stempniak in at one year, $900.000 for #NYR. Who else didn't play well for Pens against NYR in playoffs that team can sign?

900K for Stemp is a bargain. I wouldn't have wanted him back, but it is a good deal for the Rangers.

Wow, can't believe he only got $900k. Good deal for the Rags, but Stempy's better than that.

Like Butler, went home to play for his team. He's a New York kid, took a haircut to go home. Probably could have made more elsewhere but hometown discount and chance to play for a contender.

Only $100,000 more and one year shorter than the deal that Lombardi signed with the Rangers.

I really want to see this line next year:
Hagelin - Lombardi - Kreider
Fastest line ever.

The Rangers lost Dorsett, Brian Boyle, Poiliot, Brad Richards and replaced them with Lombardi, Stempniak and Tanner Glass. This Ranger team was 6 pts up on 9th place.
and someone figures Stempniak took a hometown discount (along with paying NY City income taxes and cost of living) to play for a contender!!???
Crosby- Malkin - Kunitz - Neal were not good enough to overcome the Stempniak influence. In typical Stempniak fashion he had 7 points in his first 8 games with the Pens then finished off the year with 4 pts in the last 13. He then was awful in the playoff with 3 pts in 13 games -4. That brings his career playoff record to 5 pts in 25 games -11.
The Flames management team would rather have Mason Raymond for 3 years at 3.1M/year than Stempniak for one more year @ <1M. I don't like the Raymond signing but agree with Burke and Trevling on this option.
|
Winnipeg was interested in signing him, probably at a salary higher than what NYR signed him for. Andy Strickland has indicated more than one team was interested. You're not a fan, we get it, but there are teams out there that think more highly of stempniak than you do.

Stempniak is a 30-40 pt hardworking winger, Lombardi is a one dimensional forward who has done nothing in the NHL for 5 years.
Not sure if Lee kicked your dog or sleep with your wife but I suspect 99.9% of hockey people would rather Stempniak. It's almost criminal he only got 900k.

Just seeing how his value has plummeted makes me happy that we at least got a pick for him.

The NHL is starting to mirror the NFL where all the money is going to starters in their prime and veteran players are left to fend for the scraps in free agency. There have been some players in the NFL like Urlacher that still had a year or two in them retire rather than accept lowball one year deals.
Stempniak is better than a lot of players on every NHL roster but most teams simply don't have the cap space to allot money or term to a player that is good but not great.
