Doing well with what they have

The Islanders would be foolish to keep the 5th pick this year, knowing they'll have a good shot at McDavid next year. Although if the lottery changes as early as next year maybe they'll consider keeping this years instead.
The Isles would be absolute morons to give up their pick this year knowing there is very little chance the pick next year is as bad.

I would say if Islanders gave up the pick this year the NHL should seriously consider revoking the move and taking the team away from them.

It would be the dumbest move of the past 20 years if not longer.

Sweet justice after a missed high stick penalty gives the Sens a goal.

2-1 Isles.

This is the first regular season game Iginla has missed due to injury since February 2007.

That all depends on how good the 2015 draft class actually is. If it's true that next years draft class is better than the 2013 class, then they might be better served in waiting a year if they don't think they will improve that much.

For instance say the 10th overall selection next year is every bit as good as the player taken 5th this year, then why not wait since the Islanders are probably going to be a bottom ten team. Then add in the fact that McDavid (and possibly Eichel) could be a generational talent, then there is good reason why they might think a top ten pick in 2015 is better than the 5th pick this year.
