St. Louis has a lot of heart, but it's not the same kind of substance that I think Callahan has and will have going forward.
I don't think St. Louis is the piece that puts the Rangers where they want to be. Add into that the futures given up and I don't like this move from the Rangers' side.

Wasn't being condescending, sorry about that.
Callahan is an upcoming UFA and wants 6+ million, which he's not worth.
St. Louis is a better player and under contract for next year.
Love it for the Rangers if true.

Wouldn't suprise me if Yzerman flipped Callahan immediately.

Genius! Gives us a chance to snag Alex Tuch with that mid-late first rounder.

Fair return for a player that has 1-3 years left at the most. As for the Rangers this is kind of a "win now" trade for a mediocre roster so to me it doesn't make a lot of sense as that team isn't close to being able to beat consecutive elite teams to win a cup even with MSL.

38 year old doesn't want to be there, so you get a 1st a 2nd and more physical. If St-Louis was a few years younger the return would be troublesome, but given all the real-world factors motivating this deal, Yzerman has made the best of a bad situation.

Tampa aren't a serious Cup contender this year. In two or three years, this will look like a great deal for the Lightning, and another example of the Rangers acquiring a star in the twilight of his career and achieving nothing.

Misunderstanding. Apologies as well.
I agree that Callahan, on the whole, probably isn't worth the price tag he was asking for. Probably the only team he is worth that much to is the Rangers (and apparently they disagree). I also think that St. Louis is the more skilled player
However, I just have this gut feeling that this just isn't right for either side. Especially with the Rangers possibly giving up a 1st and 2nd rounder for a 38 year old winger with only 1 more year on his deal.

Ren Lavoie confirming trade:
Renaud Lavoie @LavoieRenaud
Je vous confirme que Martin St-Louis est échangé aux Rangers contre Ryan Callahan.

How would Hudler look as a (much cheaper) St. Louis replacement in Tampa? Former teammate of Filppula, potential setup man for Stamkos, reasonable contract with term. Not to mention Tampa's great prospect system and newly-acquired picks...

I think it's a pretty good deal for both sides if Tampa can re-sign Callahan or quickly flip him for more assets. Not a bad return for someone who was only willing to be dealt to one team (it can happen!).

2015 1st Round Pick.
Another ticket in the McDavid Lottery.
Okay that is it. Sureloss is Mackenzie. Just said that Callahan could be flipped which Sureloss said 5 minutes earlier.
