Better than losing him for zip on waivers which would have been the case.

Chicago Blackhawks @NHLBlackhawks
The #Blackhawks have acquired two draft picks from Florida in exchange for Brandon Pirri:

I wonder if Hartley could have made a two way player out of Pirri.

So who's kid will be in the 2016 draft that the Hawks took an extra pick for that season. Hopefully Pirri tears it up for 20 games and vaults the Panthers up the standings.

He's waiver eligible next year and if they sent him to minors (likely given Q doesn't like his game), he would have to pass through waivers.

If Quenneville couldn't, I highly doubt Bob Hartley would have.

Like the Colborne and Russell trades, this is the kind of trade bottom feeders have to make. Grab players that are on the cusp. Not good enough to crack a deep roster, but shown enough to know they are NHLers, or at least very close. Wise use of mid round draft picks

Those are some weird picks. Does the 2016 draft suck? We've seen two teams trade picks from that draft in the last week...

Pirri for a bag of used pucks. Q hated his game. TT will be in Chi next year, and Pirri being waiver eligible next season, so he couldn't be bounced from Chi to the Rock the way he had been, and being "unhappy" to not have opportunities. A dump.
