Jagr scores, 2-1.
Haha, Hughson talking about Cervenka spinning around during that play: "I don't know if he even saw that goal go in!"
Except he said that right after showing a replay of Cervenka staring at the net then celebrating as the puck goes in.

A rebound popped out to the side of the Czech net and the Austrian player appeared to have been robbed by Pavelec. Play continues and Hanzal eventually takes a penalty to end the play.
They then review the play to see that the Austrians scored therefore the time clock is reset, however they still awarded Hanzal a penalty.

Cheers. They're Latvians, but hey
Seems pretty brutal that a penalty, that never should have happened, still counts, as well as the goal against. I can kind of understand it for the scoring team's penalty still counting (NHL rule), but in my mind, everything between the goal and end of play is forgotten. With the exception of a potential game misconduct/match penalty/supplemental discipline.

So, if it goes: Infraction --> Goal scored (but play continues for some period of time) --> Clock stopped and video review determines it was a good goal, the goal would count and the penalty would not be assessed.
However, if it goes: Goal scored (but play continues for some period of time) --> Infraction --> Clock stopped and video review determines it was a good goal, the goal would count and the penalty would be assessed (as happened in this game).
I'm sure I've seen it happen in an NHL game exactly like happened in this game. The infraction still happened and the penalty is still deserved. If you punch a guy while he's celebrating a goal, you're still going to get a penalty. The only weird thing about this situation is that the guy who committed the foul was in the penalty box when the goal was scored.

One handed tip by Voracek, 3-2.
What a deflection.

Okay, here's the IIHF Rules:
Quote:
If a delayed penalty was to be assessed before the goal but play continues and a video replay determines a goal, then the penalty is washed out as it was to be assessed before the goal. However, if the penalty was to be called after the goal but before the stoppage of play then the penalty is to start at the reset time on the game clock.

So, the absolute correct ruling was made.

You liked the final score. I wonder how many are on the flipside of this and are ticked off that the Latvians didn't pull their goalie for the Czechs to score the empty net goal.

Swiss - Sweden game pretty entertaining so far. Public service announcement: if anyone is on Telus, channel 11 has a feed of the game with Hughson but no Healy. No idea why it's set up this way, but great way to watch the game if you can't stand Healy!

If you anyone has Telus you can watch the game on channel 11... just noticed that it doesn't have Healy, that channel seemed to have turned off his mic. Although Hughson sounds like he is talking to himself.
Edit: What the guy above me said

Really hoping Berra comes back from the Olympics with some fresh confidence and goes on a tear for the Flames after. He's looking good on the limited shots that have come his way.
