The risk of course is that if his career ends short, many will perceive it was because he was gay, and other gays will be even more hesitant to come out.

		| According to Bovada.lv, there’s now an over-under on the out-of-the-closet Missouri defensive end’s draft position.
They’ve set the line at 125.5, or the second half of the fourth round.

This would be one of those sure signs you're a gambling addict if you need to get down on this one.

As wrong as it is, I think being gay is seen (in the NFL) as worse then all the other stuff you've listed above. I predict that this kid falls to the 6th or 7th round, Seattle end up drafting him (since the culture around that team seems to be pretty accepting) and the kid goes on to have a great career.

Well except for this guy. I honestly think there are a lot of teams that would be accepting. However, there is probably going to be a guy like that on every team who will be won over/silenced eventually. This will not be the first gay player known to locker rooms. The Oilers had 2 players in the 90s who have still not be identified and there were others before that who came out in public since they retired, but were known to their teammates.

If he was slated to be a lower round pick then you could burn a pr pick.

I don't think you can really burn a pr pick on a high or mid pick.

I think we're reacting too soon, it will be interesting to see how he does at the combines,

everywhere I've read he's a smaller defensive end and the most likely thing is that teams would look to convert him to linebacker, but his speed and agility could be called into question on that.

I think the best "team" to draft him in terms of culture would be New England. Belichek seems to be able to fold pretty much anyone into the mix there. Best team, maybe not the best market though.

He likely wont be drafted as a DE because of his size unless he is crazy quick and has good moves. Most Tackles are in the 6'6+ range so a DE who is only 6'2 will have problems if he doesnt have something special. 6'2 is great college size but not so much for I would say 80% of NFL teams (Dwight Freeny would be an example of a player his size who has success as a DE).
He's also 24 which is a strange age to be drafted - most seniors should be drafted at 22. There has been aot of issues with drafting older players because its hard to tell how they would compete against guys bigger than they are, where as in college he was by far the oldest player.

If he hadnt come out I could have seen a team like NE taking a flyer on him with a late first round pick as he seems like the prototypical utility player so long as he has speed. Play as a 4th linebacker or maybe safety

My guess is somewhere in the second round. Not as much guaranteed money and allows a team to take a chance on a player who might be multifaceted.

If he is a DE and only a DE and his combine results arent great (example just middle of the road speed) then he will probably drop to 3rd or 4th round or later.

			IMO
This young man has ruined his shot at playing professional football. It's a shame because he's definitely got the talent.

I'd say the latter.

He's always going to have that stigma attached to his name. He won't be known as a great football player, it'll always be, "the gay football player".

Thanks for the clarification.

I think is it disgusting that it is the latter (this is not directed at you, b/c sadly I think you are correct).

Who you decide to #### should have no baring on you, as long as it is legal and consensual.
