...you know why it likely took so long for the organization to start this rebuild? Because they were undoubtedly afraid the fans would be impatient and not understand the process.

Good to see that a 21 year old who has 19 points in 41 NHL games is being met with such amazing patience from the fan base....

This thread is ridiculous. He's a project. He's being developed - this takes time. He wasn't a top 5 pick, he was never going to be an instant star. He is showing inconsistency from game to game and shift to shift, but the team and Sven are working together to become better.

Bounce back from what? He has only had 36 games in the NHL, and is still trying to find his way, competing with much faster, bigger, stronger and more talented players than he's used to. Give the guy a break, and let him develop at his own pace...not expect him to become the scoring sensation he unfortunately started out with in his first few games.

Yup, this is exactly how I see him too.

I think part of the problem with him right now is that having Hudler on the same line as him, makes his role a little bit redundant (though I do understand that he's not a replacement for Hudler yet).

I think that for him to really get going, he (and Monahan) need someone who can really control the play along the boards. Lately, Galiardi and Stempniak have been losing a lot of the board battles and I don't think they are the answer short or long term anyway.

I think that Reinhart is actually the perfect fit for that line right now. It's my guess that, as soon as the Flames brass clear room for him, that this is exactly what will happen.

Reinhart's play last night was excellent and his play along the boards directly resulted in two of the goals. He's the perfect fit for Sven.

I think Sven's shown alot of improvement lately. He's still so young, and is still showing lots of upside. Hopefully he'll break out soon and get some fans back on his side!

I think he plays hard every night, but he's looking more and more like a guy that may not develop to me, which is a shame.
I can't believe how mismanaged Backlund has been. He looked great with Hudler and Cammalleri, then the next game they go 5 minutes without scoring and Backlund is back with Jackman and McGrattan.

bounce back? when did he bounce in? take out his first few games with flames, expectations went so high that not sure he can fill those shoes. Hoping he is a late bloomer and it will come together.

Anyone know if Baertschi and Backlund have had any significant playing time together? They both have been scratched but maybe they should try it and see if they can spark each other and play like they did last season together.

Sven-Backlund-Cammalleri/Jones/Stempniak??

Ridiculous thread

What I would like to see him do though, is develop his leg strength. More balance and strength on his skates, along with a bit more foot speed should launch him on his way.

Yes, exceptional leg strength seems to be the one thing that stands out for successful smaller players e.g. Fleury and Martin St. Louis.

13th pick not a 1st overall. He has just now played half a season worth of games in the NHL, I think the call up and half season make it feel like he has been around a lot longer than he has actually played. Please try to understand the process. He is 1 random goal and 1 random assist away from being at his ~41 point pace from last season, at 16 games in this can turn around easily.

Well said!

We should all stop worrying, I know its hard, and enjoy watching some actual prospects with upside grow into part of what will hopefully be a cup contender when all the right pieces come together.

Sven has a 2 game point streak..

I went to the game tonight and he made a few smart defensive plays to help the team gain possession. He did the same in the Dallas game. I notice lately most of his mistakes happen in the offensive zone which will correct itself with confidence.

His defensive game has come along and the coaches praised him for it last game and from what I saw tonight he followed it up so he is starting to be consistent in the way he plays and as soon as he fixes the offensive zone miscues he will flourish.

We also got Monahan, Gaudreau, Gillies, Poirier, Klimchuk, Jankowski etc.to look forward to.

Sven will be a star player. Some of the other prospects have the potential to be too.

Stop worrying so much and enjoy the show.. Its a process.

Our time will come.

I think he had a strong game last night, got an assist and should've had a goal. Please keep him with vets now.

For this team to be successful right now, they should shelter sven and give him limited time or even trade him for a grizzled vet who might get you 55 points instead of 50 on the season.

How is that good for this team?

No team is going to overpay for Sven right now. He's worth a lot more to this team than what we'd get for him in a trade (unless a miracle trade comes along). He has a future and we dont' know what it is, so giving up on it now would be foolish.

Sven needs to be given time to grow and mature. Playing him with bad line mates or benching him will only turn him into the kind of player he's playing with or worse into the kind of player that doesn't play regularly. Sure, once in a while he should be benched to send a message but he should play more regularly and with good linemates. They should Keep the line of Sven-Monahan-Hudler together and make them our #1 line every game. Get them the confidence and the opprotunity to be good and if we lose games, who cares.

Sven needs to be treated like the player we want him to be. Same idea with Monahan. He's been given the chance and he took it. They play well together, we want to keep them together. We should play them together.

Trade some of the garbage on this team if you want to make trades.

If he doesn't play against the jets then Hartley is an idiot. He won't "bounce back" unless he gets to play. The team isn't doing bad just because of him. This is just getting dumb.

Hopefully we get to see the great line of McGrattan-Monahan-Hudler or maybe he'll move butler up to the wing! Lol

Close. It's Jackman according to the projected lines on the Flames website ... Sven scratched. It's very early though, there could still be changes
