Looking at the AHL Transaction page, he was sent down on loan to the Heat.

Why tie up a contract on Jones if they never plan to actually play him?
I'm not a fan of his and I'd be happy if we ship him off for something.

When he's been passing through waivers, I doubt anyone is willing to give up something of value any time soon.

Well, replace the word 'kinda' with the word 'repeatedly' and the word 'dog' with 'son'."

Does Blair Jones collect an NHL salary even if he doesn't play game nights?
nm already answered, I should have read the rest of the first page.

well, it happens. Karlsson passed through waivers last season and Chicago paid a 7th shortly afterwards. Not a lot, but given the way he is used in Calgary, I'd surely take a 7th for Jones.

#Flames practice is an hour away . . . but D Derek Smith, with his gear, just left the rink in Los Angeles.
Thought maybe a deal but looks like demotion instead.
Also, just saw that Horak got recalled - good for him.

With Smith gone, this is looking good for Breen. I hope Breen and Horak get some playing time, not sure who they'll replace though. Maybe SOB or Butler and or Street?

This could be a paper transaction.
Breen's on NHL roster technically while on conditioning stint.
Cammalleri may take Smith's roster spot.
Breen goes on waivers, Smith comes back.

I doubt they'd recall them to sit just sit them in the pressbox ... Jones and Smith would have been better options to do that. With the recent play of Jackman and the ever so underwhelming play of Butler, I think there's more to these moves than calling Horak and Breen up just to sit in the box. For example, they could have waited to call up Breen until the 24th ... the fact that they did this today implies to me that he'll get a chance on this road trip.
EDIT: actually Freeways theory makes sense ... that'd be a bummer. I finally want to see what Breen can do in the NHL

How does that give Cammalleri a spot? The team will keep 7 defensemen so they are kind of irrelevant to the forwards.
If Cammalleri comes off IR it has to be a forward he replaces no?
Breen just replaced Smith. Horak just replaced Jones.

I really really hope they sub out Butler for Breen and finally get him his cup of coffee.

Yeah, as has been discussed many times before here, when you make a waiver claim, you have to keep the player in the NHL or risk losing him back to his original team if you try to send him down.
On the other hand, if you trade for a player, you can put him on waivers and send him to the AHL, and if he has already cleared waivers, you don't even have to worry about that.
This is why, over the course of a season, we see more AHL-depth trades than waiver claims.

Thing is we have enough 5-6 guys as it is. Russell is not a fourth and you have him, SOB and Butler as guys in the 5-6 slots. Still puzzled why we haven't picked up Meszaros or Liles who are top 4 guys which would fix our d problem for this season.

Only thing with that is why would Smith leave practice with gear if it was only on paper?

Yeah your explanation is right on but I hope Breen stays up and gets some playing time.

I think whenever Blair Jones gets called up he should just do a Roenick, go to Ed's and have a beer and steak during the game. It's not like he needs to know Calgary's system, as the likelihood of him ever wearing a Calgary uniform during the game is very slim. That might allow him to be released or traded. He's not a 1st line player, but I hope he gets a shot somewhere.

Brodie can get better and needs ice time.
Bulter can not, so I know it won't happen but I would love for Butler to see the press box
