Would be awesome to have three first rounders and to draft Fleury, MacInnis and Nylander. Talk about a rebuild!
S. Reinhart
Monahan
Backlund
M. Reinhart
That'd be interesting...

I believe in the Jays.

Yeah, If I had my pick of whoever I wanted I think it'd be hard to not pick Reinhart. BUt all things considered (especially the unlikeliness that the Flames actually get #1) I think I'd like the Flames to make this a D heavy draft. Honestly with the graduation of TJ Brodie I don't think the Flames have a single blueliner worth getting excited over (Sieloff, Culkin, and Kulak don't do it for me).

2013 seems like a fair bit better draft than 2014. There wont be any prospects on mackinnons level imo. the depth isnt quite as good but i like it a lot more than 2012. The OHL has a lot of good prospects this year and whl has a solid crop aswell. Id say maybe like the 2011 draft in depth and top end

I think Bennett will rise to the top come draft day, talented, tough and absolutely hates to loose. Another kid to watch is Alexis Pepin, told he has a wicked shot and is also tough as nails.
I'm not sold on Reinhart as a #1 overall...at all.

If you're picking first, always go with the forward over the d-man...especially if that forward is a center. There have been very few (arguably none) true franchise d-men picked first overall in the last 30-40 years. Hamrlik, Jovanovski, Eric Johnson, Chris Phillips, Ramage....yeah, solid guys, but 1st overall quality? Not really. You have to pretty much go back to 1973, to Denis Potvin, before you get to someone truly worthy of a 1st overall pick.
In terms of forwards on the other hand, the chances of great success is much bigger. Stamkos, Crosby, Ovechkin, Hall, Tavares, Kane....and that's just the last 10 years. It's almost a guaranteed win with a forward these days (hopefully a few anomalies with the Oilers picks!).
If you believe in the past repeating itself more often than not, it's kind of a no-brainer.
Oh and of course never pick a goalie either, but that should be obvious.

Unfortunately for the Flames, this seems to be an awfully weak draft as far as top end talent goes.

For those looking for additional comparisons, our preliminary ranking (which is debated and developed at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season and doesn't take into consideration the Hlinka):

We keep hearing about McDavid being generational, but I wonder how deep the 2015 draft class will be overall? It would suck to finish last, then lose the lottery and not get McDavid.

There are quite a few other attractive talents at this point. While none have the potential of McDavid, players like Jake Eichel, Mathew Barzal, Rasmus Andersson and Dylan Strome (brother of Ryan Strome) are all worthy of a watch as of now.
Barzal in particular will be a keen one for all to watch out west.

Have any players who have been granted exceptional status in the juniors been a bust in their NHL careers?

Tavares is the only one who has made it to the NHL at this point.
Tavares, Ekblad, McDavid, and Sean Day are the only players to have been granted exceptional player status.

I said it months ago and il say it again, play like shart for Reinhart.
Additionally I can picture Macinnis, Reinhart, Fleury and Nylander all in Flames uniforms for some reason....... All these years I thought easports was just messing with me, having all the last names of ex-players with different first names.

I would definitely be looking at Reinhart very hard. Ekblad and him being #1/#2 right now works out just fine for me because either way we are getting a good player that makes our team better.
I like the family connection and the fact that Sam is considered the most talented of the Reinhart brothers. At the very least is sounds like he would be a solid #2C in the NHL.
However, with Ekblad it sounds like there is no downside to this kid. He could be better than Jones (and everyone was going nuts over Jones) and he fills our most glaring need now that we have significantly upgraded our depth at center. From a "big picture" standpoint, getting Ekblad makes the most sense. He will likely take 2-3 years to develop and then we can hope to land McDavid in 2015. Then the 2015-16 season starts out with a Flames team that has a lot of young potential and the high end talent to become playoff contenders.
Without Ekblad we are hoping that someone in our prospect pool develops to a higher-than-expected level or we are planning to trade away one of our high end forwards to fill that need on D.

I thought the early consensus from scouts was that Ekblad is not on the same level as jones?

How in the freakin world is Haydn Fleury ranked 10th?
I sat through countless Rebels games last wear watching him blow D-zone coverage that either resulted in a goal, or an almost-goal seemingly every time.
