To be fair the way the Flames played team defense this past season Larry Robinson in his prime would have looked like he was worth $10 at times.

Glad for him. Deserves it. Will admit I wanted him traded at the time but it wasn't because he was washed up. He was the easiest to move at the time.

More like playing a system where the forwards help out a slow hard hitting defenseman. That he has something to play for just means he hits harder.

He's looked pretty solid in the playoffs for the most part and hopefully he can maintain the current level of play for another couple of years.
Don't agree here. He struggled under Keenan, but under Brent Sutter had a rebound year and returned to form. If you recall, Kiprusoff also got lit up a bunch under Keenan and was often frustrated by crappy team defense.

I don't think he really slowed down at all, and because of his superior upper body strength, did not struggle in the "new NHL" the same way a guy like Scott Hannan did. i.e. Regehr is strong enough to gain positioning without clutch and grab. Regehr is also smart enough not to get burned with speed the same way a guy like Cory Sarich did.

So, you are right that Regehr would struggle under Bob Hartley, as Hartley - like Keenan - doesn't have much of a defensive system. Players like Regehr, and Kiprusoff, both thrive under structure.

One thing I don't disagree with you, that it was time for a rebuild and move Regehr; my only disagreement was packaging a 2nd round pick with it to get Butler and Byron, neither player worth a 2nd round pick today forget Regehr.

I still think that is on the high side for what Regehr is worth ($6 million over 2 years).
The players have only themselves to blame for their values. Sutter got more out of his players than Hartley did.

Regehr should thank Quick for making him look capable again. Name me one impressive hit or play Regehr has made recently? That is the only way I can see the Hawks winning against LA, if Sutter gives Regehr big minutes the Hawks will skate circles around him.

I was also secretly hoping the Flames would sweep in a re-sign Reggie on the 5th of July. For the same amount that the Kings actually signed him to as well. Captaincy issue resolved. At least that's what I was secretly hoping.

I think that is a little high for the role he will play as a 4/5/6 defensemen. If he can continue to play as a 2nd pairing guy for the next two years under Sutter than this is good value.

It is about a half million more than I thought it would be for.

At least this will stop posters wanting to sign him as a UFA.

Regher's game isn't about impressive plays.

He's been fantastic, great positioning and physical. No crazy hits but he takes the body hard.

Based on his last year in Calgary, and is far, far worse years in Buffalo, that prediction was hardly unreasonable. LA clearly agrees with Reggie though. He's three times the player he was for the Sabres.

have u watched any LA games?

Backes 6-3 221 was dominating the Kings and Regehr rammed him almost clear through the boards.

The Kings went on to win the next 4 games.

That might be the biggest most significant hits in this years playoffs.

Sarich's hit let the Flames win a game. Regehr's hit got the Kings back off the mat to win the series.... and give them a chance to repeat.

You know if it came down to cheering for Regehr vs Iggy in the finals, I just might have to lean towards Robyn.

Never mind that the Kings in general are just a much more likable team than the Pens.

Regher shouldn't have re-signed unless Sutter gave him #28.

#44? Are you kidding me? Who does he think he is? Sourey? Timonen? Pronger?

I wouldn't say Butler is a non-factor, he's improved a lot and I think Bryon will be a big factor next season.

Same here... would love to see both get a cup, so a Pitts/LA final would be awesome. But I'm cheering more for Regehr.

Good deal for both sides as long as he can maintain this level of play next year.

Two years is about the perfect term for him.
